What is the top speed of a J-body?

Third-gen J-body cars have an electronic limiter that limits them to 108 MPH or 178 KM/H.

Of course, we're not suggesting you test this limit... as it exceeds all legal speed limits. But if you should find yourself on a closed course and find your limiter is higher or lower than this... keep in mind, our speedometers are NOT the most accurate at that speed ;)

The top speed limiter is set by GM, and is part of the PCM programming. There is no way to adjust this limit, so do not ask. (We tend not to talk about illegal activites on j-body.org!) The reason for the limit is simple: tires.

The tires on the J-body cars are not rated much over 108mph, that is the reason why the limiter is set to that value.
