How long were J-bodies produced?

The J-Body platform was in use by GM between 1981 and 2005.

Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac J2000, and Cadillac Cimarron debuted on March 21, 1981 as early 1982 models.Buick SkyHawk and Oldsmobile Firenza were introduced a few months later.

They would evolve over the years and exist under many names, but the Cavalier was the longest-lived name of the group.

Cimarron, Skyhawk and Firenza were all discontinued by 1989. J2000 became Sunbird for the second generation J-car, and Sunfire for the third generation.

After 23 years, the J platform has finally been retired. The last Cavalier rolled off the assembly line at Lordstown, Ohio on Wednesday, October 6, 2004. Sunfire production continued at the Ramos Arizpe Assembly Plant in Coah, Mexico until June 2005.
