has anyone done business with DAVID RICHARDSON?
Wednesday, February 09, 2005 8:52 PM
i am making this to see if anyone has done business with this guy. As many of you know, i had gotten ripped off by chris simpson, and due to the great people on the org, i thankfully got my money back (thanks everyone who helped me out on that) and now i see this guy in the classifieds who is selling a full type j kit that doesn't have anything wrong with it for $250 shipped. I dont want to say anything bad about the guy bc i dont know him, and maybe its just a really good deal. My only concern is that he doesn't have a digital camera or any pics of the kit, its a price that many people would jump at, so if he wanted to, he could probably sucker at least 4 people into within a week and grab an easy $1000, and then when i looked at his profile he doesn't have any info on it except his dream car. oh, and he joined february 7, 2005, so he hasn't really been around long enough for people to know about him, and he is already selling things.....

i just dont want anyone else getting screwed over and losing money....it seems like people are becoming members just to steal peoples money......

and i want to apologize is david richardson is a good, honest guy. i just want to protect fellow members on the org. and david, if u are fa ril, i apologize and welcome.

250 shipped for a kit? That does sound to good. Maybe it's Chris trying to pay his lawyer off.

For a non-company trying to ship a full kit, it will cost him around that price ($250) JUST to ship it in a large box.... Seems unreal.

donna: ebay and paypal are NOT guaranteed. there is a chance you could get something back if you were ripped off, but its more than likely not going to happen.

i agree....sounds too good to be true

Yea I went and got a quote on just one bumper to ship and since the box has to be so big, the price jumped right up to $150 bucks. 2 Bumpers plus skirts? Thats unreal, but its possibly he gets free shipping from a friend or something.

Sounds like a scam to me!

I had contacted him last Wed, and here is the dialogue copied directly from my inbox:

Hi, i am selling for $250 shipped. If you are still interested you may make a paypal payment so it will be safe to fastrounds@hotmail.com

Sorry I dont have digital camera, but as soon as we receive payment i can go ahead and ship out, probably through UPS. let me know. Thanks

First come first serve!!!

-David

Then I said I was worried about people using the org to rip people off and was concerned about how he had just joined the org, and would feel more comfortable if we at least spoke on the the phone. His reply:

Hi, sorry but i dont currently have a phone (hence the reason i am in desperate need of money!!!) lol anyway, if you like I will only take $200 untill you actually receive the kit, then you can pay me the rest through paypal. I dont know if this helps, but i hope so.

BTW i have been a member on the Org since 2002, i just havent signed on for awhile and forgot my password so i just started a new profile. I had a 2002 cav until i rolled it. it sucked.

If your still interested you can send to paypal address dprmotorsports@hotmail.com

thanks again

I've e-mailed him a roughly 4 times since then and no reply, no nothing. Maybe he's using a public computer or something, but i dunno, it sounds to me like hes trying to get a lot of people to bite on this so he can bank some doe. I recommend keeping your wallet in your front pocket if you know what I mean.

Its gotta be a scam. Ther clues are there.

1. The cost is too good to be true

2. As he replied he is "in desperate need of money" and someone who needs money that bad will do anything for it, even try scamming people.

3. He forgot his password to his old account so he had to make a new one? Heres something I just cut and pasted as I logged in....

Forgot your username or password? Click here to have it emailed to you.

I'd say all the signs are there of someone trying to scam.

Paypal might not be guarenteed... however, VISA/MasterCard is.

I have bought something in the past via paypal and never rec'd it... I called my Visa company and did a charge back. Got my money back within days.

I would be worried if he said just the front bumper for 250shipped. Now he even lowered the price to 200 for an entire kit? Wouldn't do it. Personally I would just go through Karo or any other company thats on here thats reputable. Theres a few. Karo at carcustoms.net I have heard nothing but good about. Same goes for Aplusperformance.com and winksonline.com and theres a couple others I cant remember.

Funny how the two paypal addresses were different too. In my opinion, there are way too many unanswered questions/irregularites (got ExLax?) in the story. First off, who in their right mind, or left, would let go a FULL J kit for $250? And shipped. Just like everyone else, he's gonna pay that just to ship the thing. Unless he knows someone who'll ship it for him free (in which case THEY are losing a ton of money for it). No pictures...He should at least be willing to have someone take pictures for him, to send you. DP Motorsports is a legitimate tuning company...BUT they have their own server and domain, and wouldn't be using a hotmail address for it. I would say he's trying to use someone else's good name to make his sound better. Again, to D.R. if it's a legitimate sale, apologies. But, it sounds WAYYYY too good to be true, and all the signs of a scam are there, so unless there is a lot better proof provided, I say skip it. Save the two hundred bucks towards a real deal.

If he keeps trying to sell the kit after it has been paid for, we know it's a scam. If anyone else from this point forward is offered this kit from this person, please either post here or use the contact us button immediately so the Moderators can take the necessary actions...

I'll keep an eye on this thread...
