Anything like gmpartsdirect.com for Canada?
Sunday, April 03, 2005 10:55 AM
Just like the question. I'm looking to see if we have anything like this in Canada? The dealerships are just scary for pricing!

I may not know much about cars, but I know two things....
1) Breaking things is expensive, and
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.

The best you can do in CND is get dealership pricing...

...and if you know someone who works at a dealership, that shouldn't be a problem.

Or have someone in the states buy you the part and then reimburse them...

Frankly, I've found GMPartsDirect to be a ripoff every time I've tried to price something through them.

They appear to have good pricing until you work out the shipping. Instead of charging a proper shipping cost, they just tack on 20% to the price of what you're getting.

It's practically a scam!

Not really... it s smart business move... think about it Kevin... 98% of people want to see a LOW item price.... they do not look at the FINAL end price...... so what they do is.. they sell an item for UNDER what they pay for it and they just make the profit back in on the shipping...... not really a scam....

Same goes for Ebay... check out the shipping on some of the 99-cent items!! $5! What a rip!

I think that charging 20% more and pretending it's paying for shipping is a scam.

They had the supercharger kit for cheaper than anyone else but wanted $400 for shipping. Is that an honest practice? You could put it in a cab and send it directly to my house immediately for less than that!

they tell you in the FAQ about the shipping.....
Quote:

Why does shipping and handling fee seem so high?

Gmpartsdirect.com sells parts near published dealer cost plus a percentage for a shipping and handling fee. This fee is not actual shipping charges only.

The shipping and handling pays for the shipping charges plus our other expenses like web programming, employees, etc. Another way to explain this is, we are selling you the part near published dealer cost, the shipping, and handling pays all of our expenses associated with running the web site. The amount left over after our expense is our profit.

Keep in mind our overall price is a tremendous savings over retail price and in most cases is even cheaper than dealer wholesale shipped to your door step, and without leaving the convenience of the Mouse. Compare the overall price delivered to your door.

(In some cases our site may misprice parts. If you feel the pricing is incorrect please email us and we will glady check on the part number in question)
