I'm going to cyber-pimp slap you for being a smartass.

It just really pisses me off that Dave feels he has to make the site an INCONVENIENCE to get people to purchase a premium membership. It's sad, really.

Please see:
http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=1&i=329562&t=329562

Its not that I WANT to make it an inconvenience, I'm just trying to balance the two sides.

As for making more bonus items to make people want to go premium... I'm working on it. I do hear you though.

I dont think its fair to have to have to pay to not have ads
Re: ADBOT

I understand that you're trying to find your balance, but I'm just sure there are better ways of going about it. And If I had the answer, I'd pitch it to you, but alas I don't. A reduced premium membership rate is an added incentive to become premium again, but I'm still going to hold out a while longer to see what bonus features can be incorporated into the site.

Well dam if its such a big inconvenience to scroll down a little further then its worth the $1.99 to get rid of it. Dam I dont care If I go premie just to get rid of it, I dont care if its there even if im premie. Its not that big of a nuisance. Stop complaining.

I can complain all I want. That is the purpose of this thread, FEEDBACK! It is NOT worth the $2. It is, however, worth me visiting even less than I do now (kinda kills the banner ad clicks a little more there, IMO).

NO actually if DAVE wanted feedback he would ask you for it. This thread was started to bitch about the ADBOT. I didnt realize $2.00 was alot of money my bad.

i've been holding off on going premium until i buy another J car. i really do love the site. It really is the best forum i've seen for enthusiasts. Look at most of them.. theyre cookie cutter crappy designed with a lot less people. I dont like the ad, but I know I can't bitch too much b/c I've slacked off on the premium for a few months. I'll go back.. might do it here shortly. I just have to deal i guess. It does suck though Dave. Ad in the forum = gay. Go sell some plasma or even better some crack... freeloaders dont like ads

Wow I can't believe the complaints coming in. This is not some unheard of move for a forum. There's plenty of forums with multiple ads within threads. Also, its not even $2 a month if you pay by the year. It's $1.66 a month that way. I can deal without one double cheeseburger from mcdonalds a month.

Sir it's PayPal and all automatic. Sign up for PayPal, it only takes a few minutes, thats where you'll enter your CC info and all that jazz. After that, come back to JBO, make your selection and proceed to check out.

why in the thread themselves and not on the side where everyone could see a sponser who supports the org and pays good money to do it?

are there not enough worthwhile companies that you have to stick all the non-premium guys with extra ads from companies you obviously don't want to advertise to those who already pay you?

in my mind if they are worth advertising, then they shoudl be advertised to all. if the org is in such a money hole why are the membership prices DROPPING?

Dave: do you offer special sponser memberships that are avalible to those who wish to sell things on the org? i've seen many sites do this with success and the whole userbase is helped by sponsers who support the site and sell good products, while they recieve more business due to thier relations with the site.

Re: ADBOT

It's really not that much of a problem is it? It takes less than a second to scroll past it :S If that's what needs to be done to keep these forums up, so be it.

Its really about economics. Going back to when it was $30 per year, a small number of people signed on. When it went down to $25, that number probably doubled - which means although the cost was less, the total income was higher. Likewise with it going down to $20, it will attract more people that just didn't think it was worth it at the higher price. Even if this only brings in an extra $5 per month more then it did before, it was worth lowering the price.

As I said in another post, I will be working on various levels, each of which will include additional benefits. I have a lot of plans, and yes it even includes adding additional benefits for NON-premium members as well! Unfortunately there is only one of me, and since this is not my full time job, I just don't have a lot of time to get things done as quickly as I would like. In time, though, I think there will be much more reason to support this site. Not to get rid of ads, but to do more then you could before. The ads are just there to help bring a little balance between those that support the site financially and those that don't, or can't for whatever reason.

By the way, I have been looking a lot at other sites that have subscription programs. I see many sites have levels that tend to range as high as $100 per year. Most of them are more expensive then here just for the most basic level. While they do many times offer more benefits, I am working on bringing more of those kinds of features here. My goal right now is to bring value to the program, not to make a lot of money off of it.

Hey Dave with all of these premo guys you need a playground for all of the long time premo guys lol

The whole ad thing doesn't bother me, whatever, I blocked it so no big deal and I'm not in the market to buy Brembo brakes or any other car part, but this post had me literally chuckling. Jesus Christ. I guess some things never change.
