98 2200 4 speed cavi. reliable, solid, ran like a tank...slow as sh1t but comfortable. i liked. never should of sold it. wish i had kept it and modded more.
03 sunfire ecotec 4 speed. biggest piece of sh1t i ever drove. problems out the ying yang. the tranny is sloppy and problematic, and there are different electrical problems almost monthly.
id get a cobalt. i have driven both the s/c and 2.4 with both transmissions. they both felt solid. the cobalt just has better fit and finish than a cavalier, and generally gives the feeling of a higher quality car inside and out.
93 and 02 here. And that doesn't include the Hornet cavies we raced
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
'86 Cav & '99 Sunfire, I had no idea that they had anything in common when I bought the Sunfire. I didn't own them back-to-back either.
I don't think I'd ever buy another j-body. Not that I had a single bad experience, in fact this has been one heck of a great car. I just don't see myself buying a bunch of the same car when there's so much more out there, I prefer variety. I have bought another car since my Sunfire, totally different kind of car because my needs have majorly changed. I also don't want to be driving one econo car after another, there's a lot to be said for other cars out there.
i went from a 2000 2.2 auto to a 2004 2.2 eco manual. i like the change. i like having a car that nobody else has or a car that most down play. i know im the underdog when it comes to performance as compared to my friends. people are still ignorant when it comes to HP from our cars. i like that. in a race, it feels good to beat a car that everyone hypes up. I also think its a great car to mod considering it doesnt come with alot of standard features that other cars have. so you can customize parts to your certain need (ex: auto X, drag, or just a mean street car).

I'm on my third and have no regrets. I had a 1990 Z24, a 2000 SFGT and the current 2001 SFGT.
If I completely wrecked my car tomorrow though, I wouldn't buy another one. Much has changed in the past 3 years. I'd be looking at a Cobalt or an RSX or something if I wanted another sport compact.
The j-body had a good run, but it's days as a new car of choice are over.
I'd certainly consider a used one as a beater though, and highly recommend them to people looking for a used car to mod and love! I just wouldn't buy a new one being cleared off some dealer's lot.
ive only owned one and i wont buy another
my first car was a 1992 Cavalier RS Sedan - 2.2 All power options.
my new one is a 2002 Cavalier LS SPORT Sedan - Loaded.
For economy cars, I love em.
My daily driver is a 1995 GTP.
i have had a 97 and now i have a 02 ecotec... i love my ecotec over that old pos 2.2 any day...
I had a 97' z24 and now I have a 98' z24. I was going to get something different instead of the 98' but my boyfriend talked me into it. I'm done with J's after this one though, I need a change.

Gongratulations! I think you'll love the Ecotec. Gives me 30+ mpg and decent power also. Sure, I'd like to have 200+ hp, but it does fine for my daily driver.
'03 LS SPORT COUPE 5 SPEED black with teal/silver pinstripe
^^^^^man that cavy was flawless.....you shouldve kept the cavy and still bought the cobalt.
