Fatal Ohio JBO member accident....
Thursday, November 24, 2005 10:54 PM
First off, I'm not going to announce the death of a JBO member beacause I and nobody else knows for sure who was driving the car. I posted a link to a couple pictures of a wrecked Cavalier this morning in the wrecked/jacked forum and didn't really pay attention to the story.

WARNING!! Be advised right now that there is in fact a lifeless body in one of the pictures. You have been warned. Here's a link to my post in the other forum:

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=59&i=6109&t=6109

Mods, I'm only cross posting this post because I believe it's important that we get the word out about this fatal accident.

By matching up the license plate to a JBO member's profile, the car belongs to Chris Shelly (funkz24). Again, I do NOT know who died in the accident. All I know is that two occupants (including driver) in the Cavalier were ejected from the car and killed.

Hopefully this should get the word out and we will receive actual confirmation of the accident.

MODS. If you want to delete this post, do so ONLY IF you move the original post into the General forum. If you do that, please add my information in this post to the beginning of that one. Thank you and God bless the two people who were killed in this accident.

It really is sad. I get scared when reading about this type of thing - I'd hope I never have it hit close to home.

My condolences to his family/friends.

Here is the update I found, and posted in the other thread. As I said there, hopefully this is the correct account...
I wrote:UPDATE!!! According to this they're still both ALIVE...in serious and critical condition. This sounds like an update to the previous stories based on corrected information from the fire department. Hopefully this is the correct account.

Thursday, November 24, 2005

Two people remained hospitalized last night after they were thrown from their car in a crash Tuesday on the Northwest Side, Columbus police said.

Police initially had said that Fire Division medics declared a man dead at the scene, but corrected that information early yesterday to say he was brought to the hospital in "life-threatening condition."

Christopher Shelly, 18, was revived after being flown from the crash scene by helicopter to Grant Medical Center, detective Heather Collins said. His condition had improved to serious last night, a nursing supervisor said.

Shelly and a passenger, Kasey Burleson, 16, both of Powell, were in a car headed east on Bent Tree Boulevard from Federated Boulevard when their car crossed the center line and hit a westbound car driven by Sean Ayers, 33, also of Powell.

Shelly and Burleson were thrown from the car.

Medics took Burleson to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she was in critical condition, a spokesman there said.

Ayers was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Detectives said they are investigating the crash and don’t know why the car Shelly was driving crossed into the other lane

I should update this thread as well.

CHRIS IS ALIVE at the time of this writing. Reports are unconfirmed regarding his girlfriend Kasey. I actually called both hospitals they are at and was only able to get information on Chris. The hospital Kasey is at does not have a 24 hour patient information center so reports on her will have to wait a couple hours.

Sorry for the misinformation. This is the truth to this point in time.

A Powell teenager who was thrown from a car Tuesday during a two-vehicle crash on the Northwest Side has died of her injuries at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Kasey Burleson, 16, was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Columbus police said in a written statement yesterday.

Burleson was a passenger in a car driven by Christopher Shelly, 18, also of Powell. The car crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car on Bent Tree Boulevard, about a halfmile north of Don Scott Field.

Shelly, also thrown from the vehicle, was in serious condition last night at Grant Medical Center with severe head injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

On this sad note, I'd like to encourage everyone to PLEASE wear your seatbelts ANY time you're in a car.

My prayers go out to Chris and Kasey that they both recover from this.

Looking at the state of the car, it doesn't seem like there was much damage at all to the passenger compartment. Hopefully this will turn out to be a lesson rather than a trajedy.

the local OBCC group is talking on our board about pitching in on some flowers and stuff to send to the hospital, just to give support to Chris and his family. I will be sure to send word that JBO is praying for him.

So sad to go at the age of 16 years old. I can olny remeber what I was doing at that age of being a delinquint and having fun with my buddies. It really makes you stop and think about what and who you really have and how special they really are.

Heather, to respond to your comment in the other thread:

The guy who took these pictures saw the accident happen. He was right there when it all happened. Judging by the photos, there was only one police officer at the scene at the time. I don't see any other flashing beacons or reflections in any of the pictures. Not all police offers are trained for EMS. Even if he was, the injuries of Chris and Kasey were probably beyond his knowledge. Thefore, he probably didn't want to get involved for the sake of making their situations worse. If I had to guess, reponse to this accident probably happened very quickly...especially since a helicopter did arrive on the scene to transport Chris.

In all honesty, I don't know if that's a body or not. I also don't know if the photographer knows for sure either. The police report doesn't say where their bodies were found either.

Same thing happened to local member of the Mid-Central forums, Skinny J.

Such a horrible and sad thing to happen to such promising young people. Makes all of our problems seem so small compared to what Chris and the families of those 2 kids are going through.

My thoughts and prayers are with them.

This is terrible, I can't imagine if something like this happened to my fiance and myself. This is one of those times when you realize the things you have and should be thankful for them.

My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of these victims.
