1999 $2600 deal or not?
Monday, November 14, 2005 2:33 PM
I know of a 2 dr 2.2l gold 1999 cavalier and the dealer wants $2600 cash. It has 89k on it, and I haven't had a chance to check it out in person yet.

How does the initial mileage/price/year sound to you guys? Also, does anyone know if this year 2.2 was the old 4 cylinder or the ecotek? (or were both out that year?)

The Ecotec didn't come in cavalier til 02, thats is the 2.2ohv with no power. I wouldn't pay $2600 for it, maybe $1000. They probaly only gave the person a couple hundered on trade for it.

it would help to know condition and model, like base or ls

if its the base...just a plane jane thats still a deal.......according to KBB (suggests 4,393 for base model with nothing special) http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.ur2?kbb.OH;;OH099;;&44672;;r&1594;;&Chevrolet;Cavalier;1999&&&&&usedcarstab maybe find some more info and enter it there...

so it would be a hell of a deal if it was rs, ls (highly doubtful)

and that wont have the ecotec

if you want it, then its a steal. just check the condition. even if theres some things wrong with it.....its still a pretty good deal.

good luck on your decision.

Thanks for the input I plan to maybe go check it out tomorrow afternoon. I know the 2.2 has no power....I have a 95 with the 2.2. It's not that big of a deal really, I'm more concerned about A. not paying a lot and B. saving gas. Hopefully it will be in decent shape.

I have no idea if it's an rs or ls...I'm thinking it's just the standard 2 door. I'll keep an eye on this thread until then, & I'll post again once I've checked it in person.

coming from a dealer thats a pretty base price. you could find one cheaper easily. just go take a good look at it (make sure its in good shape both physically and mechnically) and take it for a drive and if you like it get it but of course HAGGLE!

i paid $4000 (including title and everything) for my 99 base with 114k a year and a half ago. alot of people told me i got screwed, but i couldn't find another one in decent shape for the life of me at the time (kinda odd). plus i couldn't get a z24 because my insurance is already sky high.

Well guys, no luck today. The place was "supposed" to be open 3-5, but no one was there. I was able to just look at it, but not drive it. It's not in too bad of shape, but seemed to have quite a few little rust spots & dings/dents. No big deal, but I'm thinking maybe I'd rather hold off for something in a little better shape with less miles.

Doesn't matter anyway though because like I said, no one was there so all I had to go on was "looks". I won't get another chance to check it out until at least thursday or friday. Not sure I wanna run down there though if no one will be there again. Yeah, I know, I should have called first, but it is a dealer and they said they'd be there during those hours so. it's their loss in the end.

Just for comparison, I just picked up A 98 Z24 loaded with all the options available, and everything works to boot.

Power everything,
CD player
Power moon roof,
2.4 with 130,000
One owner car, title showed 12 miles when purchased

I only paid 1000.00 for it and t runs great.

Thanks,

when my 99 got totaled earlier this year the insurance company paid out just over $3600, it was just a base coupe 5 sp, if you are just looking for cheap effective point a to point b sounds like a good automobile for it but i would try to talk them down a bit too. try to get out the door for less than $2000

In 2002 I paid $6500 for a 2000 base model coupe, in perfect condition with 30K miles. That was after taxes and title and all that stuff. That's from a dealership too....
