Announcement: Termination of the J-Body versus forum - (2/20/2006)

As of 2/20/2006, it has been decided that the J-Body versus forum is to no longer exist in connection with the JBO and GME. This decision was made in consideration of several factors including the ease in which the forum can be moderated, the overall contribution the forum makes to the site, and the forum's consistency with the Mission Statement of the JBO.

As of late, the J-Body versus forum has gotten increasingly confrontational. As a result, moderators have been spending more and more time within the forum trying to keep threads within the rules. As it is a forum that is quite different from the others, sometimes these rules are unclear and difficult to enforce, of which the resulting inconsistencies have only led to more confrontations. Fights have been breaking out between those with opposing viewpoints on such issues as street racing and other activities that may or may not be dangerous and/or illegal. Despite the disclaimer at the top, there have also been comments about the JBO and it's supporting these types of activites. It has since been decided that the disclaimer isn't sufficient to seperate the JBO and GME from the activites being described within. As such, we have also decided that a more severe and permanent step is necessary to ensure that the JBO and GME is in no way affiliated with or supportive of the aforementioned activities. The termination of the J-Body versus forum is that step.

On the home page of the JBO is the site's mission statement which reads in pertinant: "The purpose of this site is to educate and inform others about these cars, as well as to put j-body owners in contact with other owners and resources. " It is our view that the J-Body versus forum no longer can serve these purposes. The J-Body versus forum serves to neither educate nor inform others about the J-Body platform, nor does it contribute anything extra towards putting J-Body owners in contact with other owners or resources that the other forums are not able to provide. In short, the J-Body versus forum serves no purpose that is consistent with the overall purpose of the JBO as laid out in it's mission statement.

Lastly, you'll notice a change in the rules; namely the newly added rule on street racing which reads: "The GME in no way condones activities such as street racing or operating a vehicle in any manner that can legally or rationally be considered 'reckless' in nature. Any post or thread discussing, promoting, or otherwise being of general relation to this topic is not allowed." This announcement will be considered the first and only warning as to this addition to the rules. From this point forward, all members will be considered as having previously been warned of this rule. Ignorance of this rule will not be accepted as a viable excuse for breaking this rule.

Any commentary regarding this matter can be sent to us via the 'Contact Us' button on the sidebar, though I caution you that this decision has been discussed at length before being made and that as it has been finalized, we have no intention on changing it in the near future.
