Oh i forgot.. replacing the wheel bearings every 5-10k sucks
yeah mine need replaced now
Let's see, my complants when i had Callisto:
The washer fluid hose wore through, shorted out connector C101, and ever since that the headlights have been all f-ed up.
The driver's side halfshaft snapping on me...in a 15.6 second car at the track.
The driver's side hub falling apart
The linkage pin for the transmission snapping
But despite all of that, after 100,000 miles she still had enough power in that 2.4l to shoot a Spec aluminum flywheel straight through the transmission.
Overall, though, no real complaints. She was a fun car.
Goodbye Callisto & Skaši, Hello Ishara:
2022 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD
The only thing every single person from every single walk of life on earth can truly say
they have in common is that their country is run by a bunch of fargin iceholes.
The only complaint i have is the damn dash crack in my 99 and bad wiring for the headlights in the wifes 97 both have 250000 plus kilometers on them. I hope i can say the same for the 2002 i just picked up with only 11,000 on it i have been very impressed with them so far
No complaints here since I got my eco back in dec of 03. All the problems I've had have been self inflicted and is no fault of the car. My ld9 on the other hand, well I blew a hole in the side of the block the size of Texas 2 weeks after buying it, it was COMPLETELY stock at the time.
---------------------------------------------------
4 Cams...32 Valves...5 Liters...This Could Get Fun!
everytime i go to jump start mine i get a small engine fire!
top that!
mines a 99, 173k miles on it.. the only major issues i've had since i got it at 140k are the rusted line coming out of the quick connect for the fuel filter, which has started evapping gas (only reason i can come up with for my milage getting worse every fillup), and also a fun thing i've never noticed on the site, and none of my frtiends have ever heard of...
on a cold start, only on cold starts, I get a nice smell like a mix of coolant and gasoline, and have seen a puff of white smoke come up from te hood. runs fine, needs a little cranking to star due to my cheap battery, but on cold starts i get that smell, just for a few seconds... any ideas?
Any time, any where, Lets put it on the line and race thru the lights
stupid window motors, both mine and the brother-in-laws are on the fritz, other than that, I have had ok luck, knock on wood.
on a side note
I smacked up the rear 1/4 and I am still working on getting everything fixed up, 7 months later after having the car at the body shop from hell for three months and it is still not fixed right. I had to tell them 4 times what had to be done to it (they more or less smoothed out a dent in 1/4 and called it a day with the bottom edge by the tail light being about 3 inches pressed in), I didn't want to have it their after the first 2 months, but the insurance company wouldn't let me go else where because they were a preferred shop and they guarantee the work(I am starting to think the guarantee from the shop is to give you the run around until you go away with a car that runs like crap and still have a wave in the bumper).
Anyone in Calgary, DO NOT GO TO SERVICE AND COLLISION REPAIR (MAINLY NORTH-SIDE IN THE NE)
they will give you the run around and not fix your vehicle for a very long time, and if they happen to fix it, I am very sure it will not be right, check everything over with a fine tooth comb.
I would recommend to anyone who does not know much about cars, to take someone with you that does when picking up a car.
they did such a bad job that I thought I was on a Canadian version of punk'd. I am a very calm guy, but man-oh-man, I have never had to tell a manager where to go, and how to shove a 10 foot pole up his rear so much before in my life. He tried to tell me that it was just a problem with the bumper cover and he would get another one painted and it would be good to go. so far I have had to fight with 3 different managers because they keep leaving, and I have to start from scratch every time.
I have talked to 4 people just in passing about bad body shop experiences and they all had the work done there.
I <3 jbodies
I can live with their shortcomings, but the most annoying part about them is strut mounts probably.
everything else.. I have no complaints
ya PJ the mounts sucks, especially for the '99 year as there are 2 different front strut mount setups, found that out when I installed my suspension, either then that no real problems with mine even though it has 256,000 km on the clock original motor, tranny, and time for the flaming lol.....gotta love my Isuzu tranny lol
"As I lay rubber down the street, I pray for traction I can keep, but if I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my ride." -Amen
Well i just bought mine and it already requires front brakes, i kind of knew that though so to biggie
other then that i hear these things eat up power window motors pretty quickly, which can never be fun to replace!

So, my window went down, and now won't go up. UGH!!!
all the problems I have with mine are my fault.. I did an ECO swap and used a donor car that was already tampered with (it was well hidden).. after 2 yrs, my windows dont go down, the a/c has yet to be recharged properly, and I have several electronic issues... the original issue started with the tranny.. I bought the car with 140k on it, and it seemed to have shifter problems.. it was half the price of the cars locally, so I figure what the hell and bought it anyway... and the tranny did last for a yr before all the synchros fell apart at one time... even with the issues it has, and the mods I've done, the car still gets 32+mpg
it seems the typical problems are the window motors, the strut mounts, and the dash crack.. which is funny, 'cause I've taken my dash out a million times and have yet to break it. it does rattle and squeek, tho, but I think I have a solution that I'll try the next time I take it out
I love this car to death, and I will always own a J... I've had one from every gen and they all have proven reliable, no matter what shape they were in when I got them (an '88 Z24 with 150k and worn valve seals) or what hell I've put them thru (an '85 Z24 with 400k miles on it, that I used to take off-roading, mudding, and used it for various acts of vandalism that included runnin down mailboxes, and was even driven thru a house being built).. and they've ALL taken the abuse

My 02 is mostly self inflicted.
My 98 needed the trans replaced (my fault) and some normal maintenance items. I love the 98.
Since I paid mine off I've spent more on repairs each month than I spent on payments. The only time it doesn't rattle like crazy is when it is between 0 and -10 degrees. Numerous strut mounts.
It's a good thing this car is so pretty.
For me only minor things. The rattles and other various noises. My fuel gauge only works when it feels like it, that's really annoying.
On the sunfire, I dont know what it is but anytime anyone gets in and shuts the door they ALWAYS @!#$in slam it, now the door skins are just flopping around back there making tons of noise. I cant stand the rattles and the seats in the sunfire are freakin unbearable when you drive for any more than a half an hour, this could just be me, I have a bad back.
But the Z24 is by far the best car I have ever had, great project and alot of fun to drive. Other than the other things mentioned: cracked dash, Drivers side door is a lil @!#$ (I think it was previously in an accient), and my power windows getting slower everytime I use them. This has been a great car and I love it to death!
Sunfires are @!#$, especially with a 2200!
either you people are wayyy to picky or you just have some terrible luck. my cavalier never gave me much problems at all.
It frustrates me to no end that GM made a Z24 Sedan, but never made a Sunfire GT Sedan

.
And, as someone already stated, that sunroofs were not an option on the Sedans

.
Umm honestly...
I paid $1,000 and my only frustration is with the former owner, not the car. 150,000 miles and still going with minimal maint. But the previous owner still has not gotten me the title. I do have a bill of sale, but in NY its not good enough. The car is sitting in my driveway being driven daily while still registered in his name and my bill of sale is signed by myself and the previous owner, so if he bails (not likely as i work with him in the army) i can get compensation through small claims court. A duplicate NYS title has been ordered. just takes forever LOL.
2006 Honda Civic EX Sedan AT-Galaxy Grey Metallic Pearl, 37,000 miles,Loaded with everything except Leather and Nav, Tint-5% rear, 20% front, Calipers painted Subaru WR Blue, Ipod Integration, XenonDepot 4300K HID Conversion kit, Debadged, Optima Red-Top, No performance mods because its an auto, and its under warranty.
Window motors, those terrible leaky things they call 2.4's (lol)
We have 4 J's in our family (+ non-op. cavi and we just sold the 97 fire)
The first one was a 97 sunfire convt. Sold at 140k miles
When we first got it was a great car..... up to about 75K miles. Then we got some valvetrain noise (nothing major, just annoying)
Then it was one thing after another, small list:
rack and pinion (twice)
power steering pump
starter
new coils new coilpack housing new connectors
driver side door panel
driver side window motor
water pump
brakes every 15-20k miles
2 batteries
positive bat cable
alternator
pass. window motor
Convtible top
rebuilt bottom end for rod knock
radiator
exhaust flex pipe
oil pressure switch
coolant flange
tie rod ends
wheel cylinders
ect...
The next one is a 2002 sunfire with the 2200. now at about 75K miles
It's been a fairly decent car, except several window motor replacements, blower motor resistor, and upper strut mounts. That's about it except for 4-5 brake jobs already.
My car, the 2004 sunfire has taken some abuse. At 43K miles
Under warranty, it needed an instrument cluster, and a fuel pump connector (at the body)
Other than the upper engine mount breaking in half at the track (wheel hop is bad) everything has held up well. Supercharged for over a year.
The 2005 fire has also been decent thus far. With over 70K miles, it's needed a back up light switch and a radio.
Power windows stoppwed working this morning

I love my Sunfire. 99 2200, 5spd, all manual. Almost 150k miles, and even tho the previous owner didn't take that great of care of it, all that I've had to replace is the cooling fan relay and the primary 02 sensor lol. Easily the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.
