What is the Difference?

What is the difference between a 04 cavalier and a 05? I was look at interchangeable parts and most if not all say 95-04. Why is 05 the odd man out?

Basically the exact same car. Someone typed the wrong number in the computer or something.

Because they didn't build any new cavs in 05 as is my understanding. The leftover 04's were sold as 05's.

The above title was published before the 05 Cavalier was released. The last edition of that manual had the following cover:

The content of the manual did not change, however.

That is technically incorrect. Production of the Cavalier and Sunfire ended on October 6, 2004. That was already well into the 2005 model year production.

That is also incorrect.

2005 Cavalier.

Ok, I was wrong about the Sunfire. I was correct about the Cavalier though. It did in fact end production on October 6, 2004.

05 engines underwent a few changes.

2005 Improvements (final year for Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire)
- Improved Block Structure
- Improved main and rod bearing material and shape
- Added polymer coating to piston and changed piston profile for noise reduction
- Added boss on oil pan for powertrain stiffening
- Modified timing chain tensioner for noise improvement.
- New evap valve and tube.

Also, there's a thread here somewhere, (think it's Skwirls), that states that the 05 engines didn't have the EGR as part of the block assembly.

Does that mean that the 05 does not have any form of EGR? If so does that change anything performance-wise on the motor?

To the OP I have noticed that alot of web sites only have up to 2004, not a big deal sort of like having a ninja car

The Ecotec engine (2002.5 through 2005) in the Cavalier and Sunfire never had EGR.

Shoulda clarified that. I'm talking about the EGR plate that's behind the power steering pump and beneath the stock fuel lines, on the driver's side of the cylinder head.

The only real change in 2005, (besides engine internals) is that the optional natural gas fuel system was deleted.
Even the colors were all the same.

The blower motor is completely different. 04 and below, you can unbolt the cover, take it off to access the motor, take it out, replace it, etc. In the 05, this big, plastic cover is riveted on with plastic rivets that you must drill out to take the damn thing off.
