anyone else notice this?
Monday, February 21, 2005 3:56 AM
ive noticed alot lately, newbs posting all kinds of stuff for sale the day they sign up, before ever even posting in a single forum. it seems like everyone has a laundry list of desireable parts. just seems kinda odd to me. im very skeptical of buying out of the classifieds these days. too many scams around. just wondering if anyone else has noticed this trend.

I think something is really going to have to be done about the classifieds. I think you should be required to post pics and maybe even have to be a premium member in order to post ads or something. It's harsh... but it's better than them becoming useless because everyone is too afraid of scams to even look at them anymore.

Premium sounds good...or some sort of verification... something....

Turn the classifieds section into a buy/sell/trade forum.

I can't for the live of me figure out why that change hasn't already happened.
The least Dave could do is respond and tell us why he doesn't like that idea.

1. What would making it premium only accomplish? It only costs $2.49 to go premium. You think that is a lot of money to someone looking for a good scam?

2. I am NOT going to kill the exsting classifieds and turn it into a forum for a variety of reasons. However, I will be adding commenting to ads, which will make a classified listing look a lot like a forum post. So you will all get exactly what you want. I've got a list of changes coming soon.

thanks for the replies guys. I didnt really post this to try and get change or make reason for change, but more to kinda let people be aware of the people posting this stuff, and that they could be a fraud, as we've seen alot of recently. I dont really think there is a way to get around the problems of scams, due to the extremely large community this is. even if it was for premium members and say even yearly premium, so youd have to pay the $25, i doubt people would have a problem paying $25 to scam for countless hundreds of dollars.

but i just hope people will be more cautious and research the person they are buying from. that was the motivation to this thread.

lol... I hate to say it.... but you guys think Dave has the time to read every post on this site?

he has a life.. and a job... and a car... he doesn't answer to all the members on here all the time...!

Reminds me of this past week... when BCJ got hacked and crashed... I had to restore everything... every five minutes... a new email asking when the forums would be back up.... (like I had time to sit and work on it 24/7 or something) @!#$...

Good on ya Dave for responding tho

Maybe make a feature were, you cant post in the classifieds until after 90 days after being on the .org?

ef-honda.com has a special part in the classifieds just for people to post good transactions (no bad too much arguing) I've seen them in here and it helps. If you read from like 3 people "Dave.org is awesome to buy from. Good communication etc.." it helps. I know there is still loop holes but maybe it'll slow it down.

I say in the profile area where we can see info about ourself, our cars, our forum posts, our friends, etc, we should have a spot that says like buy/sell commentary! So when someone does buy something they can leave whatever comment in the guys profile for anyone to view when a sale is is upon them!

Also way to specify which engine its for in the performance classifieds and which yr and model J's in the Exterior forums! Alright I know you can't do everything at the snap of a finger Dave but just take those as ideas and do whatever with them, even if that would be nothing haha! Later man

Dave, have you ever thought about having to have a real e-mail address for it. Like from an ISP? Hotmail, yahoo anything free like that doesn't work.. Maybe that would help a little because you could contact their ISP if anything goes wrong. Tell an ISP that fraud is invlovled and watch how fast they give out your information.

I beleave that there should be some types of regulations on the classifieds. I only do transactions in person. I just sold a bumper and battery to lundis and drove to his brothers house to deliver tham and get the money. We did that cause i think he was worried about gettin screwed so i willfully delivered the parts to his brothers house about 45 min away.

Well on s10 forums they have a trader rating under your nme and all that so whenevr you post its there..its set up kinda like ebay where there are good and bad comments ..it doesnt really do much cause they could have a buddy just say good things about them but its a step..also they have a consumer report forum where you can say good and bad about the people you bought from...the good thing about that is usually if someone scammed you there is someone in the area that is willing to "help" or the person gets bugged enough they cave..just an i dea but it seems to work ok on s10forums...phil

I made a suggestion like that in another post a long time ago but 90 days is entirely too long. My idea was that once you sign up you can only search, place wanted ads, and reply to posts(not start your own topic), for maybe the first week or so. This way it would force newbs to find their own answers.
And btw, your doing a great job dave. I dont expect immediate results to suggestions but it's great that you keep us updated.
