High Pitch Sound - Steering?
Friday, September 15, 2023 4:49 AM
Hello,

Re: 2005 Cavalier (manual transmission) with 150km.

Recently my Cavalier started making a high pitched sound while moving. No sound when idle. Basically if I'm driving in a straight line, nothing. If I turn my steering wheel from the noon position to even just 1 o'clock, high pitch sound. If I move my steering from noon to 11 o'clock, no sound. It only happens when I turn to the right. And when I say turn to the right, I really only mean like adjusting my car to the right within my lane. So basically moving my steering wheel like 10 degrees to the right will activate the sound. Again, nothing when adjusting to the left.

I know the sound of a failing wheel bearing/hub grinding which I've had in the past, but that's usually a lower growling/grinding noise. What I'm hearing is high pitched. Also it doesn't seem to change with speed. If I'm going 5 km/h, no sound. But anywhere between 10km/h and up it will make the sound.

Hopefully this makes sense. If you have any more questions, I'll happily give more into.

Thank-you to anyone reading this and offering their advise.
