Motor oil choices and questions
Tuesday, February 15, 2005 3:39 PM
What motor oil is the 98 sunfire 2200 supposed to use? I believe i have 10w30 in the car right now. Its also cheveron brand. What bennefits will using a motor oil like royal purple, redline, or havolines racing revolution have? And should i just stick with regular oil and not synthetic and is 5w30 better? I live in cali and it never gets to cold.... if that makes a difference on oil grade

How well do the K&N oil filters work?

GM says you should use 5-w30 in cold climates, and 10-w30 in warmer climates. For normal street use, Mobil 1 10w-30 should be fine. I doubt you would notice any gains over mobil 1 and something like amsoil or royal purple. Use a decent filter like ac delco.

It all depends on what kind of driver you are and how many miles are on the car too. If you have a heavier foot, you should run a thicker oil. More miles... use a thicker oil. I personally run 15w40 in my car but it has a lot of miles, a slight oil leak, and a little bit of burnage. A thicker oil also doesnt burn off as fast as thiner oils do. You dont have to use a K&N or M1 oil filter.. If you change your oil regularly, you shouldnt have a problem. Yes they do a damn good job but $10 is steep for a damn oil filter. You're only talking about a j-body... not a hot rod or sports car.

Oh yeah... and as for oil brand... they're just like generic meds, when it all boils down they're the same on the inside (unless it's synthetic).

I run 5W-30 Walmart cheap brand with Fram oil filters on a 2.2 Cavalier. I bought the car new in 2000. Its has 104,000 miles on it. No leaks, no engine problems. Still sounds like the day I took it off the lot.
I change the oil every 5,000 miles religiously.

I use Havoline 10W-30 and change @ 3,000 miles. Live in a warmer climate(Richmond, VA) I also use the ACDelco PF-47 filter.

God bless America.

you know what i find funnier than the color of his car. the fact that your mommy told you that you cant go to the car show. i remember the days of having mommy tell me what i can and cant do. WHEN I WAS 12. I guess that explains the no license or car.

hows that Huffy treating ya.
