Oil Pressure Light when Warm at Idle
Wednesday, February 16, 2005 12:00 PM
I have a '97 Cavalier with 101K mikes, I'm having the Oil Pressure Light come on at idle when the engine is warm. I replaced the Oil Pressure Sensor about a year ago, and the problem seems to have returned. Any ideas? A friend suggested just adding Oil additive to make the oil a bit thicker. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

Also, I'm running 5W-30 oil, would switching to a heaver oil, 10w-30 be used instead of an oil additive?

Thanks,

Jeff

Maybe your oil pump is worn out. Try the 10W-30, but I doubt thats going to help much. It could just be the sender again though.

I would suggest removing the pressure sensor and hooking up a pressure gauge to the sensor port. Then you can determine the real pressure and depending on what the pressure actually reads, you can make the appropriate correction.
