Tune up?
Thursday, February 10, 2005 9:51 AM
I got my car around... 4-6 mths ago... and I haven't really had any time or anything to do a regular tune up, i got the oil changed.. and it is a 98' z24 cavi and it has about.. 83k on it.. I was going to get new spark plugs, fuel filter, spark plug wires, anything else that i would need? and if so? what kind of spark plugs or wires... and would i need to have somebody install my fuel filter???? Like i said, all i have done is had the oil changed.. I'm not sure what all the guy that had my car before me did to it... so if i wsas going to do anything to it like a tune up or something then what all would i need to do!?!? and i asked a guy at advanced auto parts and he said that i would need to replace my spark plugs with the ones that the factory car comes with.. so what would i need to do!?!?

You don't have sparkplug wires, I don't mean you didn't list them I mean the engine does not physically have wires.

Spark plugs = Stock AC delco's
Get a new air filter
Buy spark plug boots if you really are wanting to spend a lot.
Maybe change the primary O2 sensor, just for kicks...

anything that comes with standard maintance just replace it so you know when it was last replaced.

If you wanted to spend some money you could change your fluids too... motor oil, brake fluid, coolant, power steering.

Fuel filter shouldnt be that hard to do, although Ive never done one on a cavalier.

hey dude, for the fuel filter it technically should be changed if possible every 20,000 miles for good maintence (don't worry im over due as well) and in directions on how to change it they are right here, http://www.phobia.net/~immortal/tech/fuelfilter.html ,and if you bring it to someone to get done, chances are you will pay anywhere from 60 to 80 bucks on it, but if you do it yourself following those instructions, it will run you 10-15 bucks. Also in referring to the spark plugs, i was told by many to just go with the AC Delco plugs when replacing them. People have had problems with others. I think you might even get a choice on that, its either Rapid Fire or Platnum Plus, i would think that decision is up to. The gas "hickups" that you car could be having might be from either the fuel filter or even a mis fire, after you do the tune-up check to see if it is still happening. Well hope this helps, anymore questions just ask.

If I were you, I'd get Bosch +4 Platinum spark plugs. They work great.

remember to relieve the pressure on the fuel system before removing the filter...or its gonna spray gas everywhere.
