I belive the 2000 z24's have the getrag tranny. The sound you speak of could be many things hard to say with a vague discription. Does it always ahppen? or only at start up....
I might be able to help but I'd need to know a lil more.

well ok it didn't make this sound all the time. but it all started a few nights ago. i heard it so i got out and check the oil. it was barely showing on the dipstick. so i put a quart of oil in and stp oil treatment.. then on the way home it all got louder but what it sound like.. well when you rev it up goes for a second and as it idles down it start to rattle.. my first impression was a rod. but then it was to high in the motor to be that. then next i though it was something on the piston floating around.. and i though then y would it go away when i rev it up.. then finely i just came to the conclusion of a rocker arm coming loose casue i mean i do turn the lil car hard.. the motor has 25000 on it and the body has 60000 on it.. but i read the book and it said it can be adjusted but i don't want to pull the engine to take a valve cover off..

please help if can

I can assure you its not a rocker arm.... because the 2.4 doesnt have them. As for a book that tells you an adjustment procedure for a 2.4 rocker arm, i'd pay you a million $ for a manual that says that.

If your positive its on the top end it could be a lifter (cam follower) that isn't pumping up correctly.

There is no easy fix for whatever the problem is.... that is the first issue, finding out exactly what the problem is, you say the noise goes away once your rev the engine, that tends to point towards a lifter issue. Now if a lifter is on its last legs, your only open is to replace it before you screw anything else up, to do that you have to removing the timing chain, and cam housings, not to much involved to replace them... just dont @!#$ up the timing when putting it back together or your in for a whole other project. Just make sure you know the problem before doing anything. Anyone on this board can give you insight on the problem but what you need is someone standing right there with the car to find the actual problem, so if you can't do that I would suggest finding someone who can help you.
