the engine in my 1996 z24 is blown and i found a 99 2.4 motor to replace it. the question i have deals with the difference between the knock sensor and how it is different between the years. is there any way to get around this problem and use this 1999 engine in my car? also is there going to be any other problems when trying to hook up everything else?? any info would be a huge help!! thanks!!

The 99 does not have an EGR that your 96 does use the 96 intake manifold and that should alow you to use the EGR from your car .. also you will be missing the oil level sensor in the 99 oil pan .. need to swap the oil pans around, put your 96 on the 99 motor.

This should help you out a little.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

just out of curiosity, where is the oil level sensor on the 99 if it is not on the oil pan?

There isn't 1 .. thats the problem .. they incorporated it into the oil pressure sending unit. Low oil pressure means low oil or vise versa.

ive been told you can leave it unhooked but it retards the timing under a load... how much would affect the engine performance wise and would it dreate any other minor or major problems?

dont ever leave the knock sensor unplugged.

There really is no oil level sensor? That is ridiculous! I really dont believe the safety of the oil pressure sensor taking care of the level.

drill the block and tap it for the 99, or just use the 96 sensor...

I was told that the 97-up was taken care of by the oil pressure sending unit. Not a positive thing, there is however an oil lever sending unit in the pan and your car will not start with out it plugged -- I learned the hard way .. put a 97 motor in mine and forgot it was there. had to go back and drop the pan and change it out.

for the knock sensor you need to take the 2 sensors and compare the threads. get an adapter to fit on the 96 thread to the 99 thread. Only problem is the sensor must go into the block or it will not work correctly.

The part #'s from GP Sorenson are ks152 (99) ks46 (96)

unfort. we did not have them instock to compare them, and I through my newer 1 out but mine was a 97 motor not a 99.
