Weird Driving Noise!CV?
Wednesday, March 02, 2005 12:14 AM
When I'm driving, mostly at a higher speed (50+mph) and I move the wheel to the left or right, I hear a bumping noise coming from the front of the car. It almost sounds like I am going over a bunch of cracks in the pavement. The faster I am going, the faster it will bump. It is the most noticeable on the highway. It is so god damn annoying and it's been doing it for quite some time now and I think its getting worse. I know its not the tires because it did it when I had my 17'' rims on, and its still doing it now with the stock rims on. CV joint maybe? How much does that usually cost to fix? The wheel bearings were already replaced to no avail...Thanks

generally a cv click when turning corners not normally going on a highway and slightly turning the wheels .. I would look into maybe a strut being bad and getting some major wheel hop.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

Sounds more like its coming from the tires, but it can't be. I've had three different sets of tires on that car and it has done it with every set..I'm stumped

he said he already replaced the wheel bearings and it did not help.

Wish I could help you man. Check the ball joints and the tie rod ends. They could have play in them.

jack up the car and grab your wheel at the top and bottom and wiggle it back and forth. watch the ball joint if at all possible and see if there is play.

on the cavalier, nothing. The wheel bearing is built into the hub assembly. it is all one unit.
