1st to 2nd grinding noise...
Friday, March 11, 2005 1:15 AM
I have a question about a grinding noise i get sometimes when i shift from first to second... I speed up to about 15mph before i shift to 2nd and if i wait and then shift to second it usually doesn't grind, but if i'm trying to shift sooner it grinds and everytime!! I know it isn't good at all for the car.. Could it be my flywheel? Is something perhaps mis-aligned? How about upgrading from a stock Shifter to a Short Throw shift kit? Or perhaps getting a new clutch..? I have a 97 Cavy 73k miles on it.. I don't think the tranny should be going bad but ya never know these days do ya?

Appreciate the help!

hey its might be your sicronizers (spelling), i had the same problem u did awhile back and i had ripped some the wires in my shifter cable. thats ur best bet right now. check that and see if the cable is ripped or damaged in anyway. if that doesnt work let me know.

yeah I have the same problem too...........its the god awful synchros............basicly you need a new tranny like me. It's not because of your short shifter its because of the garbage transmissions we were cursed with.

Thanks guys i'll certainly have to look into both my syncro and tranny... Kinda lame we weren't blessed with god like tranny systems! =) we would be in heaven if it were so right? LOL

Im going to go a step further and say its the brass blocking ring. Take off your trans pan and check the bottom of the pan, see what you find in there. If you dont find anything, then i would look elsewhere, if you find metal bits, or espicially brass pieces, then its time for a new trans, or a rebuild.
