HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!POSSESSED CAR ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saturday, March 12, 2005 12:45 PM
ok, this is the 2nd time that this has happened, and i've never heard of anything liek this, so I didn't know which forum to post it under. But hear this:

I was driving on the freeway today, going 60 mph in my 97' Z24 Cavalier, short ram intake and arospeed muffler, 5spd, when suddenly....i felt the gas pedal drop below my feet. No, i'm not hallucinating or anything, the gas pedal actually dropped to the point that the car was flooring itself. I quickly went from 60 to 85 mph until finally i started hitting the brakes and regained control over the car. this is the 2nd time that this has happened, the first time I was driving through the city not too long ago and same thing happened, i was going 40 mph on a 40 mph limit zone and the car floored itself to 55. I'm seriously not joking here. I dunno whether it's a malfunction in the computer or something's wrong with my pedals or what not. My car is NOT chipped. Everything is running stock except the intake and the muffler. Any advice on what to do? My car's seriously possessed, lol, with its red color and everything.

you have a problem wit your crusie control...the servo is probable screwed up and opening the throttle body.....disconnect the cruise module and see if it happens again.....if it does then get an old priest and a young priest....that would be the only thing capable of opening up the throttle body all the way

actually you dont have to throw it in neutral......all you gotta do is put on yer hazards...that disables it to....and its not as bad

the same thing happened to me in my monte carlo one of the wires got got under the throttle but i opened it up to see if they had fixed the problem boy was i suprised when i let off the gas thing kept going got up to about 95 so i pulled off and just stepped on the brakes i tried to put it into neutral but i redlined quickly thats when i decided to hit the brakes. Came to a stop got out and the brakes were all smoking. so you might wanna check on those two wires i believe its the throttle control wire im not sure or it could be a hose that got in there. Or what they said^^^^

but cruise control isnt supposed to make a car accelerate any more than it is, isnt it just supposed to keep the car as it is?

Have you ever used the resume function, the cruise will accelerate in the resume mode, but yours is broken, see the dealer .

yeah it isnt supposed to make it accelerate more but you know if you push in the little button on the cruise it does make it accelerate more (to get your car up to speed) i bet its a problem with that

just dont throw it in neutral, it will redline that way. hit the brakes and if that doesnt work, turn the car off, but still in the on postition so your steering wheel dont lock up, that would be bad....

I i dont have any ideas how to fix it, but if it happens again I agree with MatMan...

If you leave the car in gear, and shut it off, it will only got to the accessory spot... your wheels and steering wont lock so you'll be good to coast to the shoulder.

like crash said, either disconnect the cruise module itself, or try the fuse, and if it happens again, i would definately do what he said, and get a young and old preist.

the best way to fix it is to get it to do it again....and then go from there....dont unplug anything

when it happens again....hit the hazards...and if it stops doing it when you hit the hazards then you know its a problem with the cruise control....if it doesnt stop when you hit the hazards...then you can do 1 of 3 things

1. take your foot off the gas pedal moron

2. turn off your car and keep it in the on position and go to a stop and then restart and go get it checked at the dealer

3. get an old priest and a young priest

A quick note about the redline: The Cavalier's computer has a circuit that cuts the current when the engine reaches harmful speed, so, the only way to do a "redline" is to go downhill and run beyond the recommended speed for each gear.
