I work at canadian tire (hardware)...one of the autoparts guys told me its just a scam...its not full synthetic...its 'synthetic blend' quakerstate ...he said there is no difference between it and their non winter stuff...

i am using Royal Purple now. But my car and I is not liking it as much as Mobil 1.
ummm, did it sit ya down and have a heart to heart with ya,,, sorry man, had to

What I meant was $1.40 per quart (5) more, which I did not like.
As for the car, the car responds better with Mobil-1.

So yes the car and is not liking Royal Purple as much as Mobil-1.

Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic. I change it twice per year which usually ends up being around 4,000-6,000 miles. 155,000 km with no problems. If I didn't drive it so hard and if I lived in a more temperate climate if wouldn't have a problem going 8,000 miles between changes with this stuff. In my books, Mobil > Amsoil if only for the fact that it is cheaper and more readily available.

"I have a white car but my freind has a black car, and his car is faster than my car.
Does that mean Black cars are always faster than white cars?
But my dog is white and it beat a black dog in a race, so does that
mean that everything for dogs is opposite than for cars...........
p.s. where do you check the oil on a dog?.....i am so confused" - Nash

As long I know, and experience showed me that's true:

a) Any brand oif sytnetic oil is good for 10.000 miles between changes. Change the oil filter, too. Resist those high price brands. They give you nothing more than what you need.
b) Use oil with the right specifications for your engine. Check the owner's manual.

Best regards,

Luis, from Costa Rica.
P.S. My Cavvy is a '98, and since the veery first oil change, I run on synt. The first choice was Quaker State. I used Mobil One, and now TOTAL. Thay are all the same

Everyone in this room is right!!! Synthetic oil is the way to go. I usually run Redline 10w-30 or Motul 300v 5w-30. Only thing better about these two oils than mobil or valvoline etc is that they are Ester Based. Nothing at all comes from the ground to make these oils. I highly recommend the Motul if you choose to autocross or weekend warrior at the local tracks. It can be found at ppsonline.net. Four quarts will run you 60.00$$ but it works so its all in what you want. The redline oil is very good and have also found during the summer that NEO synthetic is the way to go because of their extremely high viscosity index to which they carry. All these oils listed are VI 4 or higher. By the way..I use the mobil 1 oil filter everytime. No sense in using any synthetic oil if your not going to help it out by giving it a good filtering foundation. Spend 30.00 on oil and 3 on a filter lol lol. Not me.
Final thought....mobil is good, royal purple is good, valvoline is okay. Still like Castrol syntec...its a hydro cracked oil and its not even a PAO base. Mobil is the only cheap oil that is PAO based along side amsoil. Ester and Di-esters....well they take the cake on synthetic oil technology. Stay away from Pennzoil/Quaker.

For now, I run Mobil1 5W30 and alwaays have in my cars.

BUT....I recently found a place that also carries Amsoil and Ryoual Purple AND is open 24 hr....so, I'm thinking about switching.

(for those of you Michiganders, its Murray's off of Grand River/96/Middlebelt...Farmington Hills/Southfield.Redford area and they have an autozone next door.)

I use 5w-30 Mobil 1

Why you ask?? For one thing OUR MOTORS WERE BUILT FOR 5W-30!!! Unless you live in a really cold climate. I use mobil 1 because if it's good enough to come in Benz, Vette's and porche from the factory, It'll be more than adequate for my car.
