This Louis LaPointe is everywhere!! Search on Google for Fog Inducer, click on the first link, you will get another article written by him regarding an invention he created to further improve gas mileage.

Thanks,

and for anyone who decides to play around with this stuff, remember... BE CAREFUL! this stuff isn't kool aid.. it's poisonous, the fumes are highly toxic, it's an asphixiant(sp?), it's highly carcanogenic, it's corrosive, among other things... it can kill you in about 15 different ways... be careful with it.

Thought I'd bring this up from the dead, as gas prices keep rising this could be some useful information.

Don't want to get into any discussion on this...

But...

The biggest gains are usually seen when 3 oz. per 10 gal.
is used...

To make it easier to measure, maybe you can talk your
pharmacist out of a new 16 oz. medicine bottle....mine cost
$1.00...and is indexed with 16 - 1 oz. marks...

My Cavalier has used one complete gallon of acetone plus
about 1/2 of the second gallon can....

I do too much stop and go driving for a mileage evaluation...

All I know, the engine idles smoother and faster, plus,
the engine oil stays cleaner...

Am very pleased !

I tried toluene to boost octane... seemed to not make much of a difference.... I might be trying this next though

Acetone loves to eat aluminum components.

I know there are skeptics out there but I am using a in-line magnet and now get better midrange torque. Yes they do work and fuel economy has improved with an average of an extra 80 kilometres per tank on a highway run. I have no idea to why it works but it does.
I installed it without my partner known about it and she commented that the car was a lot more responsive up around the 80-110 kph range.

Let the flaming start.

What about rubbing alchol that is like 90% acetone? or should you stick with 100%?

There appears to be an increased interest in this subject --

From a nuclear scientist on a general discussion board :

"My records indicate a 28% increase in milage ( Hiway ) and 16% increase ( town ) --This for an injected engine based on 5 1/2 months of observations-seems a bit high to me-but-there it is.!----Have found no down side to this date--added amount is 1 1/4 Oz's/5 gallons of unleaded---FWIW........."

(His results were with 2 1/2 oz per 10 gal. where my best

results are with 3 oz per 10 gal., so it may be a good idea

to experiment to find exactly what is best for each vehicle.)

ok this might seem a little weird but i have heard in the past that adding a little bit of kerosene to your gas would also improve MPG. Has any one else heard or know anything about this?

Just noticed Bob-is-the-Oil-Guy has a new discussion
panel on acetone...

(Lots of wasted bandwidth, and some worthwhile comments.)

Well, I'm jumping on the acetone bandwagon. See how it goes....

Sunfires rule, since you're jumping on the 'bandwagon'...

Nowhere have I seen this mentioned about acetone
having a what I call a 'strange property'....

It's the most easily spilled liquid that I've ever tried to pour !

What happens, it just seems to 'jump out' of whatever
container that you're pouring from...

The 'educated' people say that it has a low surface
tension...It's got something strange about it!

Anyway, whenever I'm filling my measuring bottle (a
sixteen ounce glass bottle) or pouring a measured
amount into gas tank, red mechanics hand rags are
used with care...

Let all of us know what your results turn out to be...

Yeah, I spilled some pouring it in.

Here's a follow-up comment to the nuclear expert that
had favorable results that I posted on Sept. 30....

"After reading your discussion Friday on Acetone, I thought I'd try it in my Chrysler Cirrus ( 1995 ) . No mileage results yet, but WOW it certainly has improved performance, and that is after a recent 90k servicing.

Pickup is noticeably improved and entry onto the freeway has no hesitation when the automatic tranny shifts into passing gear. The engine is quieter and feels like it is hardly working.

Thanks."

Here's hoping everyone will just give it a try...

Hmm..I wonder if it would work in an old cav...

where would be a good place to buy it, I wonder?

ok I was looking for more info myself as I have not had an increase in fuel economy as of yet, anyway I stumbled onto this if you read it this guy is out of his head, its a riot, don't get me wrong I feel bad that hes out of his head.

Just filled the 97 2.4L auto up. Seems to idle and run smoother. I cleaned the exhaust tip to see if it reduces the amount of black carbon building up. we'll see.

alcohol also has a high flash point than gas, and is harder to burn so no joy there

I ran this by my dad who was a chemist for the EPA for almost 40 years, this is the reply I got.

It will do nothing except eat the fuel pump up. Acetone is a strong solvent for plastics-even in the low ampunts specified here. If there is anything on the market that will safely increase gas mileage, the auto mfgs will insist it be included in the gasoline formulation available at the pump.
