Missfire, chug and sputter
Thursday, March 31, 2005 1:41 PM
This is about my truck (90 Silverado z71, 5.7). I am posting here in the hopes of getting quicker answers. If you must move, then do so.

Anyway, a few days ago it started up really bad, and chugged, coughed, sputtered and misfired for about 5-10 minutes, then it would get better, good enough that I can drive to town. On the way to town there is 2 villages where the speed limit drops to 60 for 80. When I am on my way out of the village, and go to accelerate from 60, it will cough and sputter a little until about 80, then it is fine up to 100 or so. It is fine doing 100 until the next village, and as soon as I slow down to 60 and go to accelerate again, it will cough and sputter back up to 80, and then be fine above that.

It has done this every day since it started. I am stumped, although it doesn't take much, haha. Any idea?

sounds like a fuel issue...did u maybe get some bad gas? or have water in the tank? or you could try just doing a tune up on it like plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and try some injector/carb cleaner...

As far as the gas goes, that was my first thought, so I went and filled it up with premium, put some injector cleaner and de-icer to take out any water that may be in there. That didn't help any. Problem still there a tank of gas and 7 days later.

Well, I had the cap, rotor and coil changed. The problem is still there. Going to do the wires and fuel filter this weekend.
