How to change from EGR to NON-EGR?
Thursday, April 07, 2005 10:45 PM
I've been looking for a 99+ block for a re-build, but havn't had any luck, I found a complete engine from a 96 Z24, what exactly do i need to do to get this 96 engine (EGR) to work in my 99 Z24 (non-EGR)? so far all i could think of is new intake manifold, tap a new knock sensor, remove Egr and block off EGR opening. Thats all i could think of, i will be using my 99 Computer and sensors. If anyone know, please post a list of things i need to get, if its possible to do the swap, thanks in advance.

Need to use your Oil pan not the 96, the 96 has an oil level sensor in it, not much else to worry about, just use you intake and exhaust manifolds, makes it easier than going out and buying 1. Make sure you get that knock sensor tapped correctly or your timming will always be way off.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

Thanks... yeah the pan is busted so it has to be replaced anyways, what about the timing chain housing, i heard it was changed in 97+ can anyone confirm?

Also how hard is it to tap the knock sensor, the 99 has a smaller thread than the 96 right? so the hole would have to be made smaller then tapped?

Timing area is fine .. the 96 came with a 2 piece tensoner and the 97up came with a 1 piece, just buy the new 1 piece and it will fit either housing, I actually used my 96 cover with the 97 housing, I already had it painted red.

what about the coolant pipes? i heard that the "Gooseneck" (where the rad hose attaches onto the block) is different, its different on 97+.

Has anyone tapped the 99+ knock sensor onto the older block, jsut wanna know if its hard to do and how its done.

Thanks in advance
