Possible Tranny problem?!?

First my car is a 2001 base with the 5-speed getrag and the 2200...

Well, I was pulling into the parking lot at my apartment and dropped to 2nd gear at 15mph and all of the sudden i get a really nasty grinding/moaning noise as soon as i let off the clutch....i put the car in neutral and coasted to a stop in a spot. Then I proceeded to test to see what the problem is, and i can put the car in gear and let my foot off the clutch and the car does not stall or move....however i get that groaning noise. It sounds somewhat like a muffled engine sound, yet if i touch the gas the engine drowns it out. It's somewhat hard to describe though. My friend and I were checking it out, he seems to think it's a problem with one of the belts, because the sound is coming from over there however I can't see anything wrong. I plan on taking it to a shop tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

clutch went..thats why u can let the clutch out and nothing happens...sounds like it shattered the clutch disk.

Well, I bought the car at 46k miles and have put on roughly 7k on it so far and i've babied the clutch the whole time...who knows what hell it's been through before me. Oh well, maybe this will be my opportunity to get a stage 2 installed.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

Turns out it wasn't the clutch at all....the right side axle shattered internally....so the shaft would spin and that was what was causing the noise as well as the lack of movement, heh. Better to pay $180 for the axle then to replace the clutch.
