Friday, April 08, 2005 11:28 PM
Last summer just before i stored the car i noticed it ran hot fluid was down. SO i filled it up parked it for the winter come to find out the Coolant i put in all must of leaked out. There was NOT a drop in the collant bottle which was full the day before i stored it.

Car has 106 k/m on it. Im guessing water pump?

Before you can figure out what's wrong, you have to know where the coolant is going. You gotta find where the leak is coming from.

O.K> really only two possible places ..

Check the Thermostat housing area (this would be the big metal pipe coming from the radiator to the back of the motor), it has to bolts holding it togather. If it leaking from there take it down and replace the thermostat and o-ring.

While in the area of teh thermostat look up and to your right (towards front of motor) this will be your water pump, verify the water is not coming from the sep hole on the top or bottom.

You can also check the heater core drain on the fire wall, if you core is bad it will leak through that drain or into your Pass. floor board.

Hope some of this helps.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

When you turn the car off, the coolant is still pressurized for sometimes even several hours after shutdown. If there's a leak anywhere in the cooling system, it will still leak after shutdown until pressure has been relieved.

Is it leaking on the back of the actual block? or is it leaking just in the general "back of the motor" area?

yeah ... more than likely it may be from around the back of your motor, (the water pump) because our J's have a sub frame, and if you've hit a pretty big bump or something..that jolt has went all the way up to the water pump... the pump is like 50 some bucks...buts its a tough job ... takes like 5 hours or so. ...but like everybody else said...check hoses, lines, etc. first...may be something small.

Well the coolant related items on the back of the motor are the Water Pump, Thermostat Housing, and Head Gasket.

I have a coolent leak also i took mine to a local radiator shop and he said that chevrolet's radiators are the worst and he said that he keeps like 150 parts in stock just for chevys... so i think i am just going to have a new radiator installed.. i can't find the leak and stop leak sucks...
