Well scratch one for the turbo list

I know it's been a while since I've posted, I'm the guy who turbo'd and used a spiffy e-manage when you all thought it was impossible...

Well tonight I was racing my friends Z34 lumina and it finially happened....

I have had a knocking sound comming from the top end of the motor for a while now, it was mainly when I was at a shift point, but when I am hard on the gas you can hear it at higher RPM (say after 2500)

Now it is bad, makes a clacking sound even at idle. It is definitely not from the bottom end, but I still have no idea what it is. Car is getting parked, I think I either need a new head or a new motor.

btw- still starts, runs, etc, but makes a whole lot of noise.

If anyone has any ideas what it could be, let me know. Also if anyone has any deals on a 2.4L engine, my car is a 98 so let me know.

Sticking valve slapping the cam shaft? That's the first thing that comes to my mind.

I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color

Yeah that sounds like it is definatly in the valvetrain.

beware...I've had two motors (other cars) with a similar happening as you have...and it take much longer before they went completely. I would say def. have it checked asap!

yea, like I said it has been around for a while, sounded like a piston knock at first, but definitely was not piston knock, it was strictly in the head.

It got real bad while I was racing my friends Z34 lumina, so I parked it, gonna pull the motor sunday. While it's out gonna throw in some cams and the HO mani I have had forever now. Didn't want to drive it till it broke lol.

It's ok though, just means I get to put insurance back on the Firebird, have some fun for a month or so

I will get pic's once it's out.

I said the same thing about my piston knock too. I replaced all the lifters (wasted$200) started it back up it was quiet for oh about ..... .2 seconds them it was back. I don't want to get you pissed or anythig but always plan for the worst. I learned that the hardway.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.
