cooling fan not coming on

ok on my 04 cavalier my radiator fan is not kicking on and is causing it to overheat while idling. the fuse and relay are both good. could it be the fan switch? where is it? what temp should the fan kick on at? is it possibly a bad fan? thanks for the help

How high does the heat go? Does it get into the yellow/red?

about the 3/4 mark on the gauge is where the fan comes on at

if you turn the a/c on and the fan comes on , everything is working

the computer turns the fan on , and does so either by the a/c coming on , or the temp the coolant temp sensor is telling the computer

is there anyway to set it so the fan comes on at a lower temp? say the 1/2 way mark?

the half way is normal temp

and like i said the computer controls it

the only way is to do it the dooing the cooling fan override switch

Could be your fan motor, your coolent temp sensor, your o2 sensor , fuse/relay etc, or just a bad wire, What i did to correct the problem was just do the fan overide swtich and everything works well now, as long as i don't forgot to turn the fan off.

was having the same problem. had to get my thermostat and fan relay switch replaced. sadly though, due to the overheating i needed a new head gasket too.

Easy check to see is turn on the AC. If the fan comes on with the AC on it is most likely the CTS. If the fan does not come on when the AC is on.. it's the fan motor.

Does your check engine light come on with the override switch?? Mine does. Cooling fan circuit malfuction code keeps poping up. But it does go away after a while.
