2200 OHV top motor mount??
Sunday, September 01, 2019 7:16 AM
I’ve recently picked up a 1999 Cavy coupe for free and am tearing it apart to possibly rebuild the motor. All things have gone well so far (other than this Michigan rust) until yesterday when I went to remove the top engine mount. I began thinking “is this going to cause the engine to just flop down like a spaghetti noodle?” and sure enough...
I quickly got my floor jack and bolted that sucker back up.

Eventually, though, I’m going to have to remove it. Does anyone have tips to prevent my car from having an engine prolapse? I don’t want to keep using my floor jack on the oil pan, and I’m not keen on buying that aftermarket engine support. I’m sure people have run into this before, so what did you guys do?

I made an engine support out of 2x4 lumber. Got a couple J bolts, some chain and a couple turn buckles at Lowe's. Held up my V6 just fine when changing the transmission.
I loosely based it off the picture of the J-28467 engine support. Very cheap to make one. I was careful to apply the load gently, just to be as safe as possible. It works great.
