Too weird to explain, but here it goes....

Alright as usual, I don't know how to explain weird sounds n all that. But maybe this time--just maybe--someone will be able to understand. Alright well whenever I turn my steering wheel--not too fast (mostly when I am backing out of a driveway and then accelerating and turning the wheel it happens), its like something is banging and it scurrs me. LoL. (left and right turns) Its really weird. Its recently been doing it a lot more now, all the time, sometimes a lot, sometimes not as much, but the sound is there and its not a normal thing. I am taking my car in to get the oil changed and inspection this week so ill tell them but wanna know of some clues as to what it may be.

Also when I accelerate between 30-50mph my car seems like it doesnt switch gears smoothly (my '92 grand am did the same thing) and I cant think if its called a head gasket was cracked or something of that nature. Holla at me if you may think you know what its called. When I get out of my car (--it always does the accelerating problem--), I can smell like metal burning or some burning smell. Really weird as the subject states. What could it be? hmm..lol.

Get back at me ya'll!

headgasket doesn't have anything to do with how the car shifts.
If you smell something it could be your catalitic converter needs replacing

Hey everyone. Got some updates from this problem. Took the car in for inspection, oil change, 2003 cavaliers factory recall (tail lights), and had them check my engine and the *knocking* sound.

Took my car to have it serviced where I bought the car with warranty and had them look at the engine and they said they tested it with a machine and that it was fine....yet I still smell the *burn* and the dude was telling me it was because of my painted drums...hello, I painted them in the summer and the smell is coming from the front..but wutever. Had them check the *knocking* sound for when I turn my car SLOWLY into my driveway (usually when i turn the wheel to the left) it makes the sound (from the front passenger side). I called them and told them im bringing it back in next week.

A friend of mine's gf had this *same* problem (she has a sunfire) and said that it was her bushings or something like that dealing with the suspension. I have always thought that was the reason for it doing that because it only happens when i turned. The guy tells me that my hood hinges were dry and they *greased* them. Now, if something gets greased and the next day you hear the sound...are they really greased or are they *ucking with u? So when I go in next week ima say fix it cuz i dont want to keep coming in here with that problem or ill just have to give Chevy a call.

Does anyone think that hood hinges can be the main problem, yet they were greased and the problem still exists? holla back...thanks!

btw, thanks for the replies that were given (wow like 2).

Could be these little bushings in the front suspension making the klunk noise. The dealership should be able to find the recall in thier computer if they search for the front suspension clunk noise ( ask them about it ) I had the suspension bushings done a while ago on mine.

Intermediate steering shaft needs lube or replaced, if it clunks when turning at slow speed.

control arm bushings
we change them on a daily baise at the shop
its the round one with the bolt going straight up from the botom
rear bushing
all the sunfires / cavaliers / montanas / grand ams and so on use the same stupid system and the way the bushing is bonded to the metel shell fails thus making the bushing slide out of position and the control arm hits the cradel making a bang
if you jack up the car turn the wheel to full lock you should see it the control arm will look like its sitting on the subcradel instead of being suspended in the middel

Two things to check: Drive shaft, I had one go on my car and possible the steering rack giving you trouble I know mine is.

Here's an update for u all. Rouge is the winner in the guessing game! Haha. Took my car in yesterday (22nd) n they FINALLY found out the problem. The mechanic was in the car with me n he heard the sound. He couldn't believe how bad it was. Even while parked and turning the wheel you could hear it. Anyway he said that they would get me a rental while they fixed it. I'll post pics after this of the rental just for the heck of it!

Anyway the problem was w/ the right and left strut bearings. Before I left that place though I made sure it made no noise! lol. They first fixed the right side thinking they were cool and cheap and that was going to be it, so they tested it out and found that the left side was still doing it and they had to do that side . hehehe. I love when they play cheap and have to keep working on it.

As for the rental, they didn't have a wide range of them available. I am 21 and they said that they usually don't give SUVs to *youngins* like me but they gave me a Chevy Trail Blazer, and let me tell you the size of me compared to that thing..haha makes me look like an ant! But it was realllly cool to drive, except that it smelled like gasoline in it and when i turned the car on it had the lil wrench with the oil picture turned on for a bit then it came off. LoL. Wow they really made me feel safe! But I was all high on it and then got my car back n it literally felt like i was riding on the ground! Njoy the pics

Thanks for the replies n all that. I don't have money for the winner tho..haha. Hollers!!

^^Thats the monster....

^^Friend standing by *trail blazer* on the back (for proof its really that! lol)

^^Of course me with the all time favorite PEACE sign! Holla!

(sorry for the 2 bad quality pics..taken w/ a camera phone! Nothing bothers me more than crappy quality pics---click pics to enlarge)
