hey guys i was driving the other day dwn beach in buena park and got tagged one for doing 65 in 45 zone and then he popped my hood and gave me a ticket for my short ram intake thats not carb legal..godamn i hate CA cops! its just a intake like its really gonna do anything bad but hey just wondering anybody else had this happen? i already know nobody makes a CARB legal intake for me so i think im gonna buy a 98-02 intake and hope it fits i guess? or anybody else have any ideas except for doing speed. I drive my @!#$ everyday and its a full show car I dont wanna drive around forever with my stock airbox on come on that sucks. THe other thing is its ok to just put a k&n filter on ur stock air tube right? dont wanna get another ticket

the 2200 aem intake will not fit, Different intake manifold and tb.
and technically you can't modify any thing that has to do with emissions without carb approval.

So stock intake with a replacement style kandn

not to be mean but it is your own fault for the intake ticket. He can only ask you to open the hood, if you agree to it then whatever results it your own fault. The only way a cop can look under your hood is with a proper warrant. They cannot even lay a finger under the hood without probable cause, and that stil needs a warrant to be searched. That is just my 2 cents though.

lol...people always seem to find more reasons to hate cops than cops find reasons to give us tickets...

just admit it...you were going pretty fast (65 in a 45 is 20 miles over), and in order to make your ticket more painful, the cop added the intake part in as well.

What people don't understand is this: cops give tickets for people doing dangerous crap, stupid sh*t that will affect others lives, for example when people do 65 in a 45 (and you say this is around the beach area, so lots of people around) you probably had your stereo blasted or on your cellphone or on some other stupid habit that increases a person's risk of a car accident. Because of that, you couldn't watch for cops, hence not watch for other hazards, making you potentially dangerous.

There are of course bad cops, but not nessarily all cops are bad. Their not all sitting behind huge posterboards with their radar waiting to give tickets.

By the way, and no offense, you gotta learn to develope an eye for cops. Sure, if their hiding you can't do anything about it, but if you know there are cops hiding in a particular area, why speed there? Just get an exhaust, it gives the same feeling =)

i got pulled over.. i dont think they need @!#$ ie: warrent or anything.. they can see i fthe car is in "working order".. i got pulled over they lifted my hood didnt even sy @!#$ about the intake but gave me a ticket for a horn.. my windows were DOWN they rolled them up .. and gave me a tint ticket.. exhaust.. and BLUE neon underglow which is NOW LEGAL.. ive been fighting it for almost 6months

oh, and before you dumbasses even think about answering to this, just think about this scenario:

you come home one cold, rainy night. you find out that one of your family member is in the hospital, recooperating. you ask around to see what had happened and find out that they had been choking, and had the paramedics and firefighters not arrived in time then it was lights out for your loved one. Before you guys even think of hating cops, firefighters, or paramedics (their all the same thing, their fighting to maintain decent normal freakn lives) just remember that their on duty 24/7, fighting and serving like heroes.

WHATS WRONG WITH YOU? They give out tickets because if they dont, whats not allowed becomes a norm, or for you illiterate, it becomes "ok" to do. So you're driving around, exhaust so loud it can be heard over a mile, so much neon that you can freakn get a person crossing the crosswalk to think its a UFO and run into oncoming traffic, and a couple of other bull@!#$ mods on your car that makes you think you have a fast and furious version of that make and model! and then what happens? you go out speeding like a dumbass, trying to show off in traffic that you have the stupidity to press all the way on the gas pedal, and end up killing/hurting someone else in the process.

Believe me, until this happens to you, you aint going to respect cops, not firefighters, not anyone, it doesnt matter what you say now.

First of all cops and firefighters and all emergency personel are doing what there paid to do. So since I work in a plant that manufactures carpet pad I should also be crowned a hero. And yes cops know they can be dicks so they do it "legally".

I think we need a section to post "i hate the police" stories.Pay the fine and shut up you were wrong and you know it. California is strict on emisions come move here to Ohio where they could care less.

man.. im in coronado and i see the same thing. they tried tagging me.. i was doing 24 in a 25.. and they said that i needed Stamped Serial numbers on my parts.. and that i also needed a smog check.. funny thing is, i looked it up online.. as of january 13th( im not positive ) 2005, no additional / aftermarket part to an engine or chasis requires a stamped serial number on them. And i also know, that 2002 and newer cars dont require a smog check in CA.. so im basicly gonna go to the court date and tell them to blow it out thier asses.

Did he send you for a smog? Did he mention referee or ref at any point? Two different things.

After a little bit of searching and trying to find out if it is legal for a cop to check under your hood, I found this.

"Can a police officer search under the hood of my car?

Yes, a police officer can search under the hood your vehicle as long as there is probable cause. California Vehicle Code (CVC) 2806 gives local law enforcement the authorization to inspect vehicles if they believe vehicle modifications have been made to the vehicle in question.

Vehicle and Equipment Inspection

2806. Any regularly employed and salaried police officer or deputy sheriff having reasonable cause to believe that any vehicle or combination of vehicles is not equipped as required by this code or is in such unsafe condition as to endanger any person, may require the driver to stop and submit the vehicle or combination of vehicles to an inspection and such tests as may be appropriate to determine the safety to persons and compliance with the code.
Amended Ch. 1110, Stats. 1967. Effective November 8, 1967."

The best thing to do is to just set up your car legally. It sucks that they have the power to do just about anything they want when it comes to your car. The only thing you can get them on is asking them what their reasonable cause is for looking under your car hood, it might make them think again.(Or it might piss them off )

Your best defense is to be polite when they pull you over and apologize for the mistake you made, make sure you look like you mean it. 90% of the time you'll just get off with a warning and they'll let you go. I've gotten out of many tickets that way. They get pissed off people all the time and if you are not one of those people, they will be more forgiving.

Here's a few tips for when you do get pulled over.

1. Leave your hands on your steering wheel until they approach.

2. Greet the officer politely. "Good morning/afternoon/evening officer"

3. Do not make idle chit chat.

4. Answer their questions with the briefest answer possible.

5. Smile.

6. If they ask you the famous question "Do you know why I pulled you over?" Answer them with an apology and say there was no excuse for what you did and that you promise to try harder to not do it in the future.

Try this out the next time you get pulled over and maybe you might not hate the cops as much as you used to.

A smog ref is a god among gods of what's legal and what's not. If the ref says yer legal you take a piece of paper to the courthouse and they dismiss your ticket. I don't know what they do if yer illegal. Yer registry is pretty half assed, but if that's all you got you should be legal. Injen intakes are CARB legal and should have some sort of CARB EO# on it (if not contact Injen ASAP). Exhaust after that cat doesn't matter unless it's over the dB level. If you have any of those small "ricer" filters, the ones that vent to the atmosphere and are like 1" or 2" diameter those are not. Any questions I live in IB and work on NASNI, I could glance at yer car and what not and see if I see anything.

Exuse me, i would like to ad my two cents into this topic. Seeing how I was an EMT(Paramedic) for 4 years, and now im applying for the police dpt. I think I have a good insite on this topic. First off, we dont think we are heros, we are just doing a job that was appointed to us just like any one else, yes at times we preform miricals by saving lives and assiting those who need help. Once again we dont believe that this is being heroric. We love our job, but we also hate RICERS, and by this i mean those who think they are gods gift to the world because they got the CASH flow to SOUP UP their cars. and then in turn take advantage of this by RACING DOWN CITY STREETS. Let me give you an Example.

I and just gottin of a 24 hour shift at the Fire house. I was driving home when I saw a Riced out Honda Civic race by me, trying to catch up to this camaro that was all tricked out as well. They both took off when the light turned green, they were turning the cruve nothing really sharp but sharp enough that both cars lost control and I had to stop and help, the camaro hit a wall at 85 mph, the civic hit the maro and fliped over and killed two kids walking on the side of the road. by law i was requierd to get out and help, and help I did, two kids were not more then 10 years a peace. Both pronounced dead at the scene, they drivers of the cars both lived, but now they have to live with this.

Reguardless if your speeding or just doing 20 over its still speeding. SLOW DOWN ware your seatbelts and just accept the fact that those who are out there doing their job are doin just that. A JOB. Pay the ticket, its better then paying for some ones life. You dont like the ticket, SLOW DOWN, as for the air intake, modify it.

Yes they had probable cause to ask you to open up your hood, your riced out driving fast. the sucking sound that comes from your intake is more then enough probble cause. You know the WHOOOOOMP sound?? lol but yes y ou were in the wrong, now if your lega as far as Law goes your fine dont sweat it. Just do as your told thats all.
