CO:Import and sport compact racing at Bandimere.
Wednesday, February 23, 2005 1:44 PM
June 11th and 12th are the Import nationals at bandimere. I just want to get a list of people interested in racing so we can co-ordinated this and all pit together. $45 gets you into the two day event. qualifying is on saturday and will be done E.T. style. For anyone who hasn't been there that means the you tell them how fast your car runs. ie 15 seconds, if the person who you run against says they can go 12 seconds then you have a 3 second head start. if either of you go faster than said time it is called breaking out and that is an automatic dq. Long story short is that you don't need a fast car to win at this thing. I have seen 22 second cars racing in E.T. do very well. It is all about how consistent you can be.

I plan to be there about 6:30 or so, so I will reserve all the spots we need. I just need to know how many are going. If you want to go to breakfast me and my friends usually go to dennys or village inn that morning around 4:30 or 5:00. This is a lot of fun because most of us never knew there were two 4 oclock's in one day. The day is usually long and boring during time trials but if you don't go to time trials you will have to guess at your time for eliminations. Although there are time trials on sunday also, you usually don't get very many. They allow up to three time trials either day and eliminations start at 1:00 on Sunday. Be prepared for lots of hot women in bikini's also because they host the bikini contest at 2:30. These chicks are some of the hottest in CO. And it usually isn't just for $50 or so. Two years ago they made the winner a Hawaiian Tropic model, and gave her $5000 on the spot. not only do we get to race but we get to see the pro's go at it also. GM will have their Ecotec sunfire there this year from what I have been told.

All in all it is a good time for everyone involved as long as the weather holds. I can't count how many rain delays I have been at for this particular competition. So hope for great weather and good racing.

Hmmm...I might be interested, if they'll let the Roush in (not an import or a sport compact)

Fortunately not. J/J. This is only for imports (any of them) or sport compacts.

What you will see:

Any import imaginable (including lamborgini and ferrari)

sport compacts like:
Neons
Cavaliers
Sunfires
Cobalts
Grand Ams
GTO's
Saturn: Ion's and sc, sl, and l series.
Focus
MIata
Mazda 3 and 6
Rx-8
Rx-7
Bikes
and many more

What you won't see (at least on the track)
Mustangs
Camaros
Vipers
Corvettes
Muscle Cars
Trucks (unless Import)
Vans (unless Import. Look at that eurovan hunny. it just ran a 12 second 1/4.)

MOST of the crowd and all of the racers will be into the "street racing" scene. Most of the cars would probably be considered "rice" to anyone that is a mustang or camaro fanatic. I will be going to test and tune nights on wednesdays though if you wnat to bring the rousch then.

How is a GTO a sport compact LOL

As far as going both days. Its not really worth it. No one is really there until sunday, the qualifying is mainly for the pro guys on saturday. All the people who show up on sunday are let in at 8 or so and then they have to pass tech. Then you do a few qualifying runs when they call your color wrist band.

This will be the first year since I ve had my car that I wont be running . But hopefully by then the car will be far enough along to show it

Yeah I'll be there too.Look for me in the Advance Auto Parts VIP tent, you know, the one that is 3 feet from the car. I always end up getting tickets and VIP passes from our rep. I might take the NAPA ones this year though. I'll let ya know.

wow its been a while since i posted, but i will most likely be there. I will be turboed now. I dropped the nitrous and now am turboed. I hoped to be fully tuned by then. I will be running 10-12 boost. I have added alot to my car since the last time i posted.

turbo
water injection
32# injectors
safc
wide band 02
intercooler
etc.

I am curious to see what I will run. I was planning on running nitrous and turbo, but it is easier to turn a screw and up the boost.

Mmmmm will the Sunfire be done by then? Who knows.. I hope so... since I am not going to the bash.. maybe going out to Colorado might be better... never raced up there....

Anymore info on this place? How are hotels around the track? How bad is elevation at the track? Is it a good track? NHRA approved or?

Please let me know..... I am about 98% sure I will go............

Karo, visit Bandimeres web site You can find the list of events, motels, etc all on there website. Yes, it is a NHRA approved track. I want to say that the track is around 6,800 feet above sea level. If you need a garage to do some work on your car before hand I will offer you mine as I am about a little over an hour from the track.

IMO, this isn't a bad track, sometimes it can be a little too slick off the line as they can be lazy about keeping it clean. On a sport compact event like this the kids in there cars with street tires make the track slick for the people with actual race tires or so this is what I hear people bitch about.

It seems that people lose about a full second up here when they race as opposed to sea level (depends on driver of course ). Hell, if you show up I would love to see your sunfire in action! If there is anything you need feel free to hit me up!

I've actually heard that Bandimere is one of the nicest tracks in the states. But it's the only one I've been to so I won't make that call. But if you came down with the fire I might be compelled to go watch!!!!

You coming would be AWESOME karo . The track actually is at 5880'. From all the runs ive made there a N/A car usually looses about 1.2-1.3 seconds from sea level. Although Bandimere is where hoyos set 3 records in a row . One being his first 7 second pass Black cav. is right about the track being slick but thats usually only first thing the morning. The track being right on the side of a mountain makes it stay a little cold in the morning, but then it usually warms up pretty nicely around noon time. Hope you can make it. There really isnt to much of a following around here for J's so it would be nice to show all the little honda boys what our cars are made of

Just did more reading on it.. its one of the NHRA Sport Compact Events.... so you know the track will be 100% top shape becase all the big boys will be out there with 6 7 8 and 9 sec cars...... so traction should be good for everyone... as for 5880 elevation yes that is a HUGE killer on cars like ours... but for some reason the big boys seem to do better.... who knows....

Only thing which is holding me back from showing up is the fact that a) I have no clue how much all the new work is going to cost b) how soon the car goes into the shop c) how long it will take.

I was told 4-6 weeks or so... but who knows..... the key factor is $$$$

Karo if you do come, I will buy you breakfast on sunday. I would love to hang out and shoot the @!#$ with a sunfire owner like yourself. I have been to many of these before and yes the "big boys" will be there. Heck I would even put a car customs decal on my car for the event just to get you some more publicity. It would be sweet to see you run up here and show some of these guys what a sunfire is capable of. Hope to see ya.

The Garrett / Bothwell Sunfire is MUCH faster then my Sunfire will ever be and much nicer to look at... just show that car to people and they will be much more impressed.

My POS looks fast but it really is not compared to the big boys.

damn ill put a sticker on my car too. anything for a fellow j-GOD. but i hope to be tuned by then. The tranny went out in my truck and i need to find a place to put a new clutch and slave in. So my cavy has been put on the back burner for a week or two. I hope to have everything ready for this year. I want to be in as many events as possible tis year. not to many turboed cavies running around. i also will be putting in a better clutch and flywheel. hoping for higher boost.

I will deifnitely be showing up for this if I can get some time off. Just e-mail me if you guys get enough people to go. Karo, you should toally come over to CO. Bandimere is a very nice track. Nicest track in the US, could be. I raced at Maple grove over the summer on vacation in Philly after the bash, and the track wasn't in as good of shape as Bandimere.

I'll have a sig someday....................
