auto to manual conversion question?
Tuesday, June 07, 2005 2:12 PM
ok, i'm swaping my 3spd out and putting in a 5spd, here is the question......

is the wiring for the auto the same as a manual? or do i need to go junk yard hunting for a engine harness that came out of a manual cav?

had also posted this in the tranny section...

it is possiable to use the 3speed harness just search the tranny section i belive suncavi had wrote a post on it. but what year is this for? When i did my swap on my 98 2.2l sunfire that was a 4 speed auto. i used the interior harness of the 4 speed auto and used the engine harness of the 5 speed. they just bolt right up under the clutch resiovor. when you do this though be careful when you start the car. I never had to push the clutch down to start my car. so if it is in gear it'll jump (if you are not holding the clutch pedal down).

You did get the mounts from the frame rail too, right? If I remember right you have to get the mounts cause they are in different locations from the auto vs. manual.

I'll tell you what, throw me like $20 and I'll give you my old 2200 PCM (computer) and engine wiring harness from my 98 sedan. I know the oxygen sensor connector is missing as I cut it off because it hit my turbo and melted it so I had to replace it and I took it off that old harness. Or hell, if you want to just pay my way into Bandimere this weekend when your there (if your still going) and I'll give it to you there. How does that sound?

i should be up there for the races on sunday.

Darkroom1428: did you had to cut holes into your firewall for the clutch assembly?

yes, you would need to cut a hole in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder. the clutch pedal just bolts right up but you would need to get the clip for the top bolt on the pedal. also the gas and brake pedal would be wise to change out.
