So...

Is there much action in this part of the country? Wife and I talked about moving to Denver. In fact, we just got home from spending a week there this morning. I can't find any positions available through work to transfer to Denver, but I did find a position in Salt Lake CIty, Utah. Heard it was beautiful there. But will I be the only sport compact there? I figured cruising the car through the mountains would be beautiful.

You are nuts! Salt lake is like 9 hours or so from Denver. Not to far of a drive. Definately have to make a long weekend out of it if you wanted to participate in any shows. I havent been to salt lake in about 3 years, so not sure how the seen is out there. I know the seen in Grand Junction, CO is pretty decent sized. I know a guy from there and he says there are a grip of modded trucks there as well as the imports.

Good luck Ian.

I must not have been looking very hard then... All three times I have been in Denver now I hardly saw any cars modified. Did see one Cavalier this past Friday night going south on 287. Too dark to see what color or what was done to it besides the obvious lowering and exhaust.

just gotta be in the right places i guess then...

denver has some
littleton has quite a bit
lakewood has quite a bit
grand junction and colorado springs has some action

its definately not a "hot spot" but we do have a tuner scene here

Re: So...

It seems that there has been shows every weekend here for the last month or so. Like last Sunday there was 2 shows going on as I remember Jason talking about wanting to goto both of them and take pics.

Denver is a good place to live. The summers aren't too hot like Arizona and the winters aren't nearly as bad as like Canada. We have a pretty ideal climate all year around IMO. The one thing that I can't stand is humidity and Denver is pretty dry with very few muggy days. @!#$ that 100% humidity stuff. LOL

Wow, I can't go down the street with out hearing someone's exhaust or seeing someone's aluminum wing. I'm up in the Thornton/Northglenn area and I know a lot of peeps still meet up here to go racing as well. I'm about out of the scene though, for now at least.

Yeah, we loved the weather in Denver. I remember it was 70 when I was there in February. I love how when it snows, it melts right away. Doesn't linger around for weeks or months like it does here. My only problem is finding a suitable job. With Sun's recent aquisition of Storagetek, I am keeping an eye for job openings there. Just tough, because right now there is a job in Salt Lake City that would be a promotion and more money with my current employer, EMC. Plus I was looking at apartments out there and can't believe how cheap it is out that way. The only problem I run into is it would be hard for me to move out there, pay for an apartment AND pay my mortgage on my house here while my wife stays behind to try and sell. With Denver, my parents live in Westminster and I can crash in the spare room for free while the wife stays here to sell the house...

We want to move REAL bad...

Yeah I work for Lockheed Martin right now and I know that all of our STK guys are a little nervous on what might happen/change now that Sun's in the picture. Who know's...

But I do know that Denver is very expensive to live in. Denver's almost as expensive as California in some ways. If you were to move here there are some houses being built out by the airport (I think the towns called Reunion) that are brand new and not too expensive. Good luck with your choice. Denver would be a lot more fun then the Salty.

There are a few houses for sale on my street, actually...a couple are nice, but 1 is trashed...the guy tore apart the kitchen, never put it back together, and sold all the appliances...the house is more or less abandoned since the realtors gave up on selling it...but still a few nice ranches on my street...could lookin into pricing for ya...

I've lived in both Denver and Salt Lake City, and between teh two I MUCH prefer SLC. I'm not there now, but I just moved away a year ago. There is definately a pretty good scene there. You'll see a whole lot of rice rolling around, but there are some serious guys there too. Denver has more crime and the smog.... well let's just say that when I was down in the Springs I could still see Denver.

Personal opinion, and this is my opinion only- so don't take offence CO guys- Colorado is beautiful, and I love the front range, but SLC just knocks it into a cocked hat, Mormons and all.

I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color
Re: So...

Denver doesnt have much smog at all...the reason you can still see denver from the springs is:

1. Cities located not very far apart
2. Crystal skies make it so you can see the mountains tuck over the horizon
3. East of the Rockies, most of Colorado is flat...

The only thing SLC has going for it, IMO, is the picturesque mountains that surround the city on 3 sides...

Re: So...
Thursday, September 01, 2005 5:08 PM
its really not all that expensive to live in colorado if you find some of the suburbs like littleton or lakewood or somewhere...in Denver itself it isnt as cheap but surrounding cities and suburbs have good prices

Re: So...
Sunday, September 04, 2005 10:16 PM
Well, we found a place in Salt Lake City we really like, so we're going to try our asses off to get out there...

Ian,
Denver is great, I have lived here for nearly a year. I'm originally from Jersey where multiple large well known indoor/outdoor shows took place every weekend during the summer, spring, fall and a small part of the winter. Colorado is very different in respect to the quality of cars, shows, street scene and media coverage. The street scene is virtually non existent and the show scene is extremely lacking. Most shows are very small, normally run by small clubs or organizations. I generally get classed within a tuner class because most shows are primarily run by classic car groups or low-rider clubs. I recently attended one of the largest tuner shows in the Denver area, I would estimate that there was less than 100 cars participating within the show! I have never been to an average (only been to HIN in your area) show nor have I driven around MI so Denver may be an improvement for you. I can tell you that Denver and the surrounding states are nothing in comparison to the east coast. On a high note don't let my feeling of the car scene scare you away, check it out yourself you very may complete disagree with me (which would be great for you). The weather, cost of living, and people (who are very slow) are extremely nice! Its a great place to live I recommend the move. If you do decide to move get in contact with me as I would be happy to show you around (Just another case of the bind leading the blind because I don't know where anything is!). Good luck with the decision and let me know what you decide

Chris

Chris - Well said. I missed you yesterday at the show. By the time I was able to take pics of the cars, you had already left. Before the trophies I would imagine too. I guess Dr. Bob took a good chunk of the trophies too.....but dont know since i wasnt in the tent.

There are a few more shows this year I know of and that indoor one at the collisium over thanksgiving weekend.

I didn't leave early, I just moved my car prior to the trophies, I didn't want the tent to blow over on it :-). I think Dr. Bob took home three with the eclipse and one with his Rx7 at least he didn't win anything with his other Rx7.
Eclipse - Best of Show
Best ICE
Best Paint

Rx7 - Best engine / Performance

What are the names and dates of the other shows?

Chris

Jason,
I was talking to Chris as he was securing the car in his trailer after you left to go find Frank and say good bye. Tim got to see the car too.

Chris, nice meeting you and congrats on the show even though I liked yours better then the Saturn. I think you deserved 1st.

Re: So...
Monday, September 19, 2005 3:45 PM
Well I won second place, the blue Saturn beat me out. I don't agree with the judges ruling at all; but hey good for him! I was thinking about going to that show in the springs. let me know of any other show info.
