Texas H.I.D owners
Monday, May 09, 2005 7:39 PM
This goes out to the Texas people in reference to H.I.D. conversion kits (possibly from xenonfactory or xenon err can't recall the rest right now).. I'm well aware that they are technically illegal since they don't come on our cars from the factory. But my question is has anyone had problems with inspections, police, or any other type of governmental figures? Particularly the people who own the H.I.D.s in the area of 4k.
Any feedback would be great.. Even other states Esp. because I travel allot to New York City and North Dakota, and I pass threw numerous states of course

Thanks in advance

I would assume if it illegal than you wouldn't pass an inspection. However, most inspections dont even open the hood of the car, unless they find something wrong with emissons. They are just going to check if ur headlights are in working order, and sense they will be they will check you off and move to the next thing. I have also heard that people who have gotten troble with them is mainly people who have kits that are a very destinctive color, like pruple, or really dark blue. They stand out so cops find a reason for a violation. But i have also heard that people who get around this tell cops they are from a factory car, like BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac. I think if you get a 4k kit you should be fine, cuz that is whiter light unlike a 12k which looks purple.

Never had a problem on my buddies Civic. Just take it to a place with idiots. They pass my Toyota Tails everytime at Walmart but at Avis Lube, they said that they didn't have a DOT number on them.

Work the morons to your advantage.

I read somewhere that their illegal if you use the in the origal headlight housing. Something about them being too bright, but the one's that you add on like driving lights are legal. I've had xenon bulbs in my car for about 3 years and never had a problem, and like almost everything bought from a parts store it says "for off road use only"

Yea i have had an inspection person tell me that they are illegal because they didnt come on are cars and he didnt pass me. But i was not about to go and change them out just to get a sticker so i just waited till one of my buddys went to work and took it to his job and let him inspect it.
