i may need a new block soon. I am confused though....excuse the ignorance but whats the difference between the short block and long blocks for our cars? i thought all our motors were long blocks lol...

short block is just the block, no rotating assembly
long block is the whole thing minus the head

as ive always heard it here at work

ive always heard it as short block being the bottom end and the long block being top and bottom assembled

you are correct.
a "short block" is the block and everything in it. ..... if it has no internals it is simply " A BLOCK"
A "long block" is the bottom end and the head attached..this does NOT include accessories and may or may not include valve train..but usually does
