SlowFire : Dyno Day . . Pictures, Info, Video...

Hello,

Today, I took the sunfire to the dyno shop. The shop only works on WRX and Evo 8s only. They have a all wheel drive dyno jet but the guy said he would dyno my car for me. More or less I got to the dyno place apx 1 PM or so. It was around 85-90 deg out side the shop as for temp.

The problem we had on the dyno for some damn reason we could not pick up RPM. We tried 3 different places to pick it up from 3 places which I know for a FACT you can pick up RPM from but his Dyno Machine would not pick it up. He called Dyno Jet and Dyno Jet said he was missing one damn sensor for it to pick up RPM that way. (No clue but I dont own a Dyno Jet so I dont know what is needed to pick up RPM off our cars)

So I do not have TQ readings only HP, Air Fuel, and MPH. We had to dyno the car in 3rd gear because of the fact that my car in 4th gear @ 6500 RPM does 135 MPH and he did not want to take my car up to 7100 RPM in 4th Gear because god knows what the speed would have been at.

First run, the car on the motor (NO NITROUS) Dynoed at 238.32 WHP Now as you can see from the air fuel all of a sudden the car goes to apx 8;1 or 9;1 air fuel. I was like WTF how can this happen. . . I did not see anything at first. Here is the picture of the dyno sheet for this run.

Second run, the car on the motor ( NO NITROUS) Dynoed at 239.51 WHP as you can see again the air fuel dropped like a mo fo on the dyno. I was like jesus it seems like I am running extra fuel in the car or something. I looked up and BAM! I notice the damn nitrous switch is on but the bottle is OFF so the car is getting EXTRA fuel at 3900 RPM since with the MSD its set for the nitrous to kick in at 3900 RPM and cut off at 6900 RPM... so it all made sense as for why the car was reading so damn rich. I know it does not show RPM but you can see both air fuels drop at the SAME exact location on the dyno. Here is a picture of the dyno sheet for this run.

Thrid run,now that my dumb @ss turns the switch for the nitrous off even tho the bottle was off we make another run on the motor (NO NITROUS) and the car puts down 259.00 WHP to the ground. Yes that is correct 259.00 WHP to the ground. As you can see the air fuel does much better then the first two runs but it could do a little better as for running a little on the richer side if you know what I mean. Here is a picture of the dyno sheet for this run.

Fourth run, the moment of truth. We open the bottle on the nitrous, purge it clean a few times to make sure everything is good to go and we dyno it with the 75 shot jetting on my NX kit. Please note nitrous kicks in at 3900 RPM and cuts out at 6900 RPM and during those 3000 RPM the timing is retarded 3 deg. The car puts down 351.67 WHP to with the 75 shot of nitrous. I was like WOAH! How can that be. Only 75 shot jetting and we gain almost 95 WHP on the dyno! The air fuel is a little on the leaner side but all that will be taken care of once we mess with the AFC a little more to make it run a little on the richer side. Here is a picture of the dyno sheet for this run.

Fifth run, this is the last run of the day. We make one more run with the bottle open and run it again with 75 shot jetting on the NX Kit. The car puts down 354.10 WHP to the ground again on the 75 shot jetting. Same thing with the air fuel same as the run before a little on the leaner side but things can be worked out with the afc to make it run a little richer so its safer for me to run the nitrous. Once the bugs are worked out I will dyno the car again to see how it does. Here is a picture of the dyno sheet for this run.

Now for the fun part, as for the video which I said I would have I am waiting for the guy to e mail me the videos since I was a dummy and did not take my OWN video camera down to the dyno shop. NEXT TIME I will for a FACT take it down there so I can get my OWN video of the dyno runs. As soon as I get the video I will upload it to my FTP and put up a link to it. I think we have all 5 runs on video if not 1 of each run both on the motor and on the nitrous.

Now, Dan Platter, along with a few others can come on here and tell me "I am not impressed" but guess what... this is a DYNO run NOT a track time so please bring me somoene and show me what they have done on the dyno as for numbers go. Its okay tho, you guys will NEVER be impressed because my car is fully gutted out so thats why it made such big numbers on the dyno correct?

Any questions feel free to ask, along with comments good or bad

Awsome numbers. Picking up my motor this weekend I could only dream of hitting the 354 mark but we'll see. Can't wait till you have some good track conditions to put down all this trash talking. <br>

Karo, I have spoken with a lot of guys who have built up circle track 2.4's and road race 2.4's, and they all say that about 240 hp on gas is all they have achieved from that engine. Looks like you are at least as good as the best. Congratulations. Mike
