Well i got bored this past few weeks, did my tranny swap, and slowly starting the components of the bottom end. Though i still cant find a lightened flex plate.
I had a bunch of chromed pipes laying around, So i figured id screw around a bit. What do you think of my first attempt at a j-body header. I know, i know, i could just go out and buy one, but thats no fun. The pic is attached below, i think, and ill load it on my cardomain site to link it over here.
I took the old crap flanges out of the scrap storage, used some old pipes that were original meant for a motorcycle a few years back, but owner died before we could give him the finished project.
Its not made to spec, it will bolt up, but will not clear my tranny nor is it inline with the exhaust ports. Its just practice. The upper flange was cracked to begin with, and i have a crinkle in one of the bends, but its not bad for a new try out, maybe ill make one to spec and see what i can dyno.
Im not sure yet though, i have lots of projects to do, and little funding. May have to wait for a snowy day.
Event is right, it bolts up to the 2.2 OHV. I think ill try a 4-2-1 design next, if i have time.
oh yeah that is definitely 2.2L without a doubt. The shape is all wrong for a 2.4 or 2.2 Eco...
I need a welder. Know where to get a good deal on one? I have been pricing them for a while, but need a bit of advice. Nothing heavy duty, but nothing that wont even weld plastic.
Things like this are what I want to do.
any suggestions?
thanks
that flange looks like a import flange possibly a GEO
i work at pacesetter , and that not a 2.2 flange , they have round ports
sheesh, give him a break ppl. he knows it's not right, the point was he made his first header.

Thank you daniel, at least someone read it.
I also like the way you welded it without burning off the chrome plating (or even grinding it off 1st) and even managed to get it to replate itself over the weld beads.

good job. Your on the right track. Building it is one thing, getting it to flow right is the hard part
yeah that header is bogus.... oh yeah and you are a tool.. ya got a six speed auto tranny and a 3 inch rear lift ehh.. man now that is custom right there.. i wish i could do all that custom work.. BS.
Ask Lundis, and soon Sin rocker, jbcav03. Just because you havent tried a skoda universal euro6 tranny, doesnt make it BS. The thing is Skoda is reletively a Chevy in parts, thats why so mauch is swappable. Noob.
Or, in the real world, it is more related to a VW.
Back to the subject at hand,
Are you denying the truth that your claimed, self-built, header really isn't a production, chromed motorcycle header?
Not everyone here is a stupid Newb.
Not even google has heard of a
skoda universal euro6 tranny.
I also find it unlikely that a person who can't figure out that his 2.2 Auto J has a 4000rpm rev limit IN NEUTRAL ONLY. Its intended to keep people like you from free revving your engines to death.
The Rev Limit is much higher when its in gear.
I also doubt someone who bought a used base model J could afford to buy a
universal euro6 tranny.
SO if you think its a motorcycle header, find me what it goes to. Its more based on the 1.8L sephia header, after all i made the prototype header for the sephia a few years back. And i know about the rev limiter, i always have, what i couldnt figure out was why GM would ever have a production engine That makes less HP/TQ than several 1.5 and 1.6L OHV's.
I bought a used model J because my other car (sephia) had suddenly died in a ball of fire. I work 2 full time jobs and a part time job, so i needed transportation. This was available. If i had the choice, I would have bought another kia, because it sure is better than the cavy/fire.
