i just got the RK Sport Ecotec undrive crank pulley. it didnt come with any directions. is this a pretty straight foreward install or are there any potential snags i need to know about? any help is apreciated.

pull of your passenger side tire, there is a fender linning i dont know if you can do this without taking it off. Other than that you get a belt tool and tak the belt off and like he said above me just take the one big bolt off and swap them <br>

you don't need a belt tool, a 3/8 drive rachet works fine <br>
any troubles about the pully turning when losening the nut?
and how would you keep it still if it does move <br>

you'll need to put a screwdriver or something in one of the spokes of the pulley to keep it from spinning when breaking the crank bolt loose and tightening it back up. <br>
i just replaced the crank pulley on my friends 99 prelude with an unorthodox one...on this certain install the nut was totally stuck....it took about an hour and 2 different impact guns and 2 broken ratchets and a bent breaker bar to notice it wasn't coming off...it had to be taken to a shop and the nut was torched to nearly 1000 degrees and came right off with a impact gun...so! if ur first tool breaks because its too tight...take it somewhere! or atleast heat it up first! and to get ur pully from moving...put your car in gear (recommended) and get someone to hold the brakes tightly
Yea heat it up to 1000 degrees and totally MELT YOUR FRONT MAIN SEAL.
That is smart, but I guess if that is only way it comes off I woudn't even worry about it.

ive always used a belt tool with it, i cant imagine trying to use a ratchet up in that tight space, might be a lil diff on the 03 04's tho <br>

i didn't even need a ratchet... just push up with your hand on the tensioner and slip the belt off the crank pulley... <br>
My stock pulley slid right off afterI took the bolt out. It takes longer to remove the wheel and inner fender cover than it does to change the3 pulley

its a real easy swap everything should work fine but don't stick a screw driver in the spokes just put the car in first gear and if your still spinning the hub because your tire is off get someone to hold the brake down
heat??...torch?? HELL NO. if it doesnt come off with regular tools its not coming off at all. there will be no torching my car. now...as far as puting it in gear...my car is an auto so i guess park will have to do. thanks for the info all. i hope to have it installed soon.

How much is gained from the underrdive pulley?
Is it a lightwheight unit?
Can it not be cooling problems with the lowered revs in the pump?
i doubt it will be stuck on that much that you will need to heat it up anyway...i was just giving an example of something that could happen on ur install and it wasn't even on a cavi...it was on a prelude so dont worry about it...all the other guys thats done it with your motor says its simple so go change out that pulley!

The generator work depends on the output alone, regardless of rotational speed.
There are losses in the belt drive, generator fan and friction which will be reduced with the underdrive.
The moment of inertia will decrease with the lighter wheel and the different drive ratio to the generator.
Is it for the Ecotec 2.2 or the old one?? Or both
the pulley we are talking about is for the Eco. as far as gains go...not sure exactly. ive seen claims from 5hp to 37hp. the 37hp claim is so beyond bogus its not even funny. however 5 hp is very possible. i believe gains of around 3.8hp per lb of weight removed from the crank(including attached pulleys)have been had. so figuring the lighter pulley(i believe its aluminum instead of steel like OEM) and the reduced drag from the accesories 5hp is possible. ive seen both underdrive and standard ratio ultra light pulleys for the Eco.

5hp from a pulley? I dought it <br>
I think maybe 2-3 HP can be gained from this. It s two-fold:
- Maybe 0.5-1.0 % from the lighter pulley and acceleration of the generator (in 1st gear, that is).
- Steady state 6500 rpm maybe 1,5-2 HP
This is my Ecotec engine on my Opel Speedster. Does yours look similar or do u have a AC as well on that belt??
Can I go ahead and order the wheel and belt from RKSport?
i have a/c as well on my belt but i don't see why it wouldn't work on your car... it seems to be the same setup as my ecotec...

Great! Thanx for the help! I guess the belt would be shorter on mine, without the A/C.
Also some cars, Miata/MX5:s for instance, can have damages to the end bearing of the crank, cos the pulley serves as a vibration damper.
Noone, who has had similar problems or heard of them?
