Superchips Tuner for ECOTEC

Hey I knew that topic would draw your attention.

Look I've been talking to superchips and hypertech for a while now. I finally got superchips to agree to take an interest in making a tuner for us but it takes some work on our part. I need responses from all of you no matter if you are interested or not.

From what I was told the only way they will make a tuner for us if if they can see in black and white a large enough market worth developing into. When they see the ECOTEC market this is what they had in mind:

Quote:

The small car market on the other hand is made up of a lot of two groups of people. Regular family people who have kids and do not have a lot of money to purchase the car or truck that they really would like to have. The other group is the younger generation, as I will call them. They to do not have the money to purchase the car they would really like to have but purchase the smaller car because that is what they can afford, no disrespect here, just how I see things. The family owners most probably will not be chip purchasers as they have a limited budget to begin with and so they drive what they drive and that is it. The younger generation on the other hand, works on the car, finds ways to get the money to work on and make the cars faster and better. The point is, this is only a part of the total market for the smaller cars.

So if we want to prove them wrong and get a tuner available for us then we need to answer these questions for them:

Quote:

If you can do some research on the small car market, again numbers how many, age group, how much is typically spent on the car by who, what they spent the money on ect. that would be a good start.

So please wether you own a J or not give your response. I will compile all the statistics and get a project plan together for this opportunity. If you want to see a programmer out there for the ECOTEC, SRT-4, SVT Focus or any other car please give me your answers to the questions above. This is important to our future as small car tuners and could really help with many of our other modifications. Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from many of you.

I think he somewhat has a point but companies should see that with Birth of the Cobalt and Redline ION that the ECOTEC is going to boom! They know this and don't think it's worth the time or money to invest in it. Of course the J-body modifiers is not as high as Import car owners who modify but there is a market and with companies NOT supporting it will either eventually fall or the companies that do support us will get bigger. We will survive non the less.

I just wish companies could see the potential of the j-body and american market like how RK Sport does. Lets just hope one day someone will step up and FULLY support the ECOTECs.

The power programmers don't offer enough tuning for a lot of us. They just give you one basic "tune" and thats what you get, other than editing some little things. They just don't have the flexibility that I would want.

HP Tuners if they ever get off thier ass will be some great software, and I'm also working on a similar project with some people to do pretty much the same.

I think this would be good for the low-end modifier (N/A or visuals) but not the high-end modifier (turbo/super charger). High-end folks need to do lots more to get the Ecotec to accept boost correctly so this would not be the problem solver.

But as stated, I think this would be very popular for the low-end/low-budget person or someone just starting out and looking for a little more HP as long as it's not overpriced since they would have the entire market on this! Certainly with the number of Ecotecs out there now and only more to come with the Cobalt and Saturns, this would have to be a seller!

Someone will make loads of money when and if it is produced as long as it's priced to sell!

I can see where they're coming from about the market for small cars but there's something to remember. A car guy is a car guy whether he has a Bugatti EB110 or a Citroen 2CV. That said, the list of cars with an Ecotec under the hood is growing. Cavalier, Sunfire, Cobalt, ION, Solstice, Sky, Opel Speedster, to name a few.... so if they were to support any engine by any manufacturer, Ecotec will be in a LOT of cars... and that's a lot of car guys.
