93 quad 4 engine swap
Wednesday, February 23, 2005 10:25 AM
this is just a quick question about my friends 93 grand am 5 speed with a blown quad 4. Is there any newer style motor like from a cavalier that would bolt up (fairly easy)??? thanks in advance if anyone can help...

I believe the only newish motor that will bolt up without much is the bastard 95 twinquad But I would just try to find a rebuilt HO to stick in there as it would be FAR easier than a twincam swap or something like that.

Alright thanks. He has just had no luck with swaping for the same thing (he's on the 3rd right now and the car only has 140 000km on it) its just hard to locate a quad 4 to match up around here since it's only NB Canada lol not many around

I live in Manitoba and I have seen dozens of cars with HO's in them. 2 in the wreckers too including a 442 like mine. That was a real sad day, (btw I own a 1990 442) I would wonder if he was just unlucky with his past engines or was he just abusing them.

Oh and please don't take everything I say about the Quad to be totally accurate, I'm still learning too.

i know of a 93 Quad 4 W41 in perfect condition with 79k miles on it if you are interested. i almost bought it after I totalled my last boosted w41 cav, but ran out of money and I'm stuck with the pushrod 2.2 now. But if you are interested, send me an e-mail and I'll give you the address, phone number of the place, the guy to talk to, and pricing (hint, it's not that bad at all for the 190 hp beast you'll be getting)

Well I would say it's totally driver abuse lol. You would have to see him drive! but i only posted this for him to see what his options were with a motor out of a newer car and it doesnt even have to be quad 4. He just wants a fairly simple bolt up to his 5 speed transmission so he doesn't have to keep throwing the same motor in everytime cause we all know they can't take his abuse lol. thanks for all your help though guys...

driver abuse to the W41 can be solved by a cometic head gasket and a better water pump. those are really the only faults of that motor.

hey thanks I will see what he thinks! If it was my car i would go with a quad 4 again and just go a little easier on it. But I agree with the head gasket problem i have seen that alot just around here..

seriously, tell him about the W41 though. it's by far the most aggressive four cylinder made by GM up until the eco. it's 79k miles, manual tranny, ecu, wiring harness... $1200 SHIPPED. if he ends up being interested, shoot me an e-mail and i'll give you the contact information.

lets be real here. if you had a boosted W41 cavalier, you would know something about quad 4s. then you would also know that a 1993 W41 would have a 753 head, and be rated at 185hp and not 190. i happen to have a few W41s myself, and i know my stuff. you telling us this was a slight oversight that you said the specs wrong?

and one more thing. if you did have a W41, you would know its quite a bit more agressive in every respect than any stock ecotec that has come from GM.
