HO intake manifold question
Friday, March 11, 2005 10:16 AM
hey i have secret cams, full exhaust coming in the mail, crank pulley, 59mm throttle body, cold air intake, port polish and bore 010 over. my question is should i go with the HO intake or the LO intake manifold. i read the LO will give you about 10 whp, i also read that the HO will lose more torque, what do you recommend i go with. or is anyone selling a venom intake manifold for cheap

I dont beleive there is any dyno proof of a loss comparing the HO to the LO. I say go for the HO one. Any aparent torque losses will be more than made up for in the hp numbers.

Yes officer I knew the speed limit was 50

how would the HO compare to the venom?

it would compare like, $700 for the venom vs maybe $50 for the 2.3 manifold. easy answer there.

there is a REASON GM made a different manifold for their 160hp low output quads and their 180-190hp high output quads. those manifolds help make more power. put on the 2.3HO manifold. those are the ones made to make more power.

and you wont be losing torque. you will be shifting the rpm your torque peaks at to a higher rpm, which means more hp. this means you will be going faster. you will have to of course rev to that higher rpm to be into that new found power, but im sure you wanted to do that anyways. does that mean you wont make as much power at super low rpms? probably, but who cares when you can rev past that point and be in rpm range where you make more power than before!

ok cool thanks. what about instalation how hard are they to instal? will the stock throttle cable fit. also i have a cold air intake so i will have to mod that for the instalation as well.

the LO intake and HO intakes would be the same to install. many writeups on how to install it exist.

tons of other people on the JBO have done the mod. if you think you are better than the others you see that did the mod, its obviously easy enough for you to do.

i would say if you were running with boost go with the HO... but N/A i think the LO would perform better

well that would depend on what type of N/A he did, obviously Karo went with the HO instead of the LO, but then again, he runs 13's all motor no nitrous. so that makes a difference, what kind of #'s he is looking at doing. of course i don't know to much about the LO, so i can't say its even better in lower horsepower applications on a N/A car. just saying, i would think that it would depend on what his long term goals are.

well i will have go go juice next month, hopefully and then turbo next year

i'm never going to turbo my car or install nitros, HO or LO for me?

Don't double post, You only had to ask the other question here.

if you dont have experience with the low output or high output intake manifolds, what makes you think yourself qualified to answer his question about which would be better?

the HO manifold is a STOCK manifold that went on 180hp motors. this isnt extreme race only parts, like say individual throttle bodies would be. this is just a better designed manifold. the low output manifold looks the same, but is smaller. its not as good. every 2.3 guy will try to get rid of theirs to put on a HO manifold. thats cause they make more power.

point of the story is, if you want to make power, and the choice is 2.3 HO or LO manifold, the HO one is the one to get.
