Removing the balance shafts do not make the car shake more. They are there to cancel out resonances which are not anything you can feel. It is very much worth it to remove them as instead of a 30lb balance shaft assembly, you will have a 10lb oil assembly, if it even weighs that much.

Also the balance shafts not only block oil from getting ot the rod bearings, the oil pressure drops off above 5000rpm. They are the reason for spun bearings. Also, the pump is too smal on the balance shafts, and to compensate they spin it twice as fast through gear ratios. Spinning the oil pump so fast is not a good idea at all if you ask me as it would wear faster. Plus no matter how fast you turn the pump, if it is not capable of pumping the amount of oil you need, it is not going to do so. It can only pump so much before it reaches capacity.

It is rumored to free up about 15HP by removing them. I have removed them on the motor I am building...which currently is being balanced right now. Should have it back soon, then I can buy bearings and gaskets and get to work on the swap.

If you can get them removed, do it.

dude dont get discouraged, that isnt bad at all.
last feb i blew the @!#$ out of my b16, i was redlining in 3rd (8200) and went to shift into 4th and it slipped into second (i dont know how) when i let off the clutch the ACT clutch didnt slip one bit and threw to like 12.5k. later when we took off the head 2 of the pistons were completely gone, disentegrated. i had to dig like 8 spoonfuls of valvestems, pieces of pistons and rings out of my cat. but now i have a second gen b16 and it runs better than ever. anyways good luck,

^^^ wow to frying ur pistions.

As with balancer shafts, u can get some power out of them, but if ur not looking to go super crazy then just leave them in. Mike Karas built a 400hp cav with balancer shafts.

That's crazy to destroy the pistons but in Daves situation with plans to go supercharged or Turbo in the future I would remove them and get the better oil pressure and a lot less weight in the power train. I was holding the Balance shaft assembly when he unbolted it and it weighs a ton. I can't believe GM couldn't redesign the block or something to get rid of the resination.

ohh yeah i forgot the best part, the block was cracked inbetween #2 and #3 pistons (right down the center) when we took off the head and the block gurdle the damn thing litterally split into 2 pieces
