Ecotec mods???
Thursday, April 14, 2005 7:30 AM
Is there any free mods, meaning mods I can do myself at home that I can do to me engine? I already have headers and 2.25 back and Intake and a crank pulley on the way. I just didn't know if there were any tricks I could do time consuming or not. I ran a 15.6 1/4 last night at the track and I am trying to improve, thanks

if you bought 2 headers, your gonna have to send one back, there is only 1 on the car.

You can do weight reduction, Remove the air bong if you havent yet. Daily maintance, etc.

If you're good with a carbide cutter, you could port your intake manifold. Check my other thread for pics.

you could pull off the cylinder head and port that, but thats not really a fast or fun mod. it also costs money to replace the gaskets you would use putting it back together.

Toss an intake on it like my pic below. Wouldn't reccomend the weapon R though, I hate everything about it but the sound.

if you have access to a torch and a spring compressor you can cut your springs. can only do one coil off of the top though. before anyone says, "you can't do that....your shock will collapse and you'll fly straight off of a clif and crash and burn, and die and stuff." yeah, that's not going to happen. if our cars came with progressive rate springs, well that's a different story.

^^ that's dangerous, stop suggesting that, nobody should be cutting their springs

secondly, that's not an engine performance mod

yeah, i was thinking free. it's not dangerous, but you have to use a torch so that the end of the coil bends down slightly so it seats correctly. and only cut off of the top.

Do what 04Firetec suggested. It works beautifully.

No don't do that, Heat treating springs to bend them is terrible the metal becomes brittal and can break at any time, you need to remember that you will be more bouncy and will add more stress to your springs, they will crack or break... just save up 200 bucks and do it right.

^ it's not going to change spring rate on a linear spring.

Chapter 10 you are an idiot, everything Fatalic said was right, think about it, lets say they design the coil spring to have 7 coils in order to suport the wieght of the car, now lets complete cut one off.... so the metal thats left gets more stress then its designed to take (its not about the spring rate you dip@!#$ its about weight distrobution, the more even the load is spread out the less strees on the parts holding the load) so not only are you increasing the load but you say to heat it on top of that which just like fatalic said will make it brittal.... plus you blow you stock shocks..... so a brital spring that bounces more then its surpossed to while surporting more weigth then its surpossed to.... real @!#$in safe. STFU and quit trying to get people to rig there cars

Do me a favor go take a gun, load it, point it at your head, then heat it up with a torch. You don't heat springs, unless your going to the Demolition derby, or your on Junkyard wars.

This is whatI say to all the DUMB @!#$ that think its ok to cut springs..

Obviously money is tight if you are even thinking about cutting the springs... Just goto ebay and get the cheap ass coilovers for like 30 bucks slam the car 4" have a @!#$ty ride and then have the coilovers break in 6 months ... another cheap half ass way to solve your problem

BTW ken love that sig
