Well I am tryin to find out about converting to RWD. I remember a article a few years ago about a cavy using corvette or comaro suspensions part but not sure to what degree. I am hoping anyone that has done any form of cavy rwd conversions could drop me a some info here or for that matter sites that have info on RWD conversions.
it was the corvette brake bracket.......
RWD....good luck, no one has ever done it....but if you have the infinite amount of money it will take then good luck to you
In order to do this, you're talking about fabricating your chassis, converting a new suspension, finding a way to have your drivetrain power your rear wheels, buying an engine and transmission...this is not something easy or inexpensive. Basically, the only people who have done this are Pro Drag Cars.
Honestly, if you have the money to do this you would be able to afford an V8 Vehicle (and then some).

not worth the time and money.
buy a 72 240z and swap an LS7 into it.

It's been done. I saw a drag car at the 01 Bash that was converted to a RWD v8 and it wasn't a stretched out "sort-of-cav-shaped" car like the Jeg's car. It was a car built by one of the people working at the plant and was essentially a stock body on the outside.

and i'll bet that car handles like a sloppy pork chop.

The quality of this car isn't reflected in the pictures.
There have been Viper v10s and Hemi's put into alot of PT cruiser, which have been converted to rear drive. I don't think it would be too hard to do... but I would expect that it would be fairly difficult.

I think he sells 4 link rear assemblies aswell.
I would love to do a not so crazy rear end. Something that would pass as a sleeper on the street.
As for the price. A typical and modrate RWD 350 V8 setup could be put together for fairly reasonable prices.
A racing eco motor plus turbo would be pretty neat.
It's the details that would break the bank.
I can count about 15+ 2nd gens with RWD setups.

its been done buddy. on both 2nd and 3rd gen cars. but it takes a lot of money. and not worth the time

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

yeah i always forget about the 2nd gens and that cavy i jsut forgot
WTF...........that crazy..

.............but what I heard is even more insane......converting and making the AC work as a turbo so when you turn it on, it blows the air into your intake.......IS THIS POSSIBLE? Never seen it done....has any one heard this?

I don't even think anyone here wants to even try and comprehend such an idea...

WELL...................... WOULD IT WORK????????
NO. a/c is not like a turbo.
the rwd j-body conversion has been done a few times. first of all, you must realize that the ONLY j-body part left would be the body, and POSSIBLY the engine (not sure how youd put a rwd-style tranny on our inline, horizontally mounted engines. As for the actual rwd conversion, its pretty simple: chevy s-10 frame and drivetrain. just put the cavy/sunfire body on that frame (not as straightforward as i make it sound).
craig lewis- more pics of that fire please that thing is sweet!
hmm...trying to build your own GTO eh? They will be almost the same when done I suppose
I like how you think...You sound as crazy as me. If you can weld measure and cut metal then its no problem. I would go with a solid rear axle rather than an independent setup though for ease of setup, tuning and for better results later. The independent rear setups would work but would be a major headache in my opinion. You run into jacking on corners with some and all have squishy rubber bushings and are not tunable. A four link with a solid rear axle and a track bar of some sort should work great plus you can play with angles and such to change handling characteristics. You will likely need to run some sort of frame from the front to the back but thats no too difficult with either round or rectangular tubing. Basically you would be "backhalfing" the car and installing subframe connectors. For added structural integrity it would be a good idea to seam weld the whole car as it wasnt designed for this much torque. Then you will most certainly have to enlarge the "driveshaft tunnel" which now serves as a place for exhaust to run to fit exhaust a driveshaft and a transmission in the front. I think this is totally feasable and would be a sweet setup with an LS7 or a hopped up LS1.
I personally would do away with the strut suspension in front and fab my own...or you could but an aftermarket front subframe...possibly for a 67-69 camaro or one for the old chevy 2. This would give you a better place to mount the engine and strengthen the front a bunch as well as give you a place to tie in a roll cage if you so choose.
To me this would be worth doing because its different than what everyone else is doing and you would end up with a one of a kind sleeper.
OK so here is what I am currently thinking the powertrain from a buddies wrecked LS1 powered firebird. yes most likly redesigning the front subframe and adding a rear sub frame. i may be so lucky as to be able as to adapt the f body rear subframe (frontal damage) from the firebird. would like to try and use vette style from suspension for it is very compact by design an will help with space being a premium. The brakes i will have to find the part numbers but i think the vette and f body brake are on the same spacing and could be swaped to match the correct master unit. the engine control can hopefully be condenced into a simple unit as so its not as embeded into the car as the current fbody system using the pass key or theft lock or what ever its called. I expect that the exhaust tunnel will have to be cutout and enlarged to accept the trans and drive shaft.
The Path I chose is my own most like to think they are slick cause they have a "sleeper" S truck. Well what would say sleeper better than a common looking cavy that just happens to have a 400 plus SBC under the hood. I love the little car my fav since i no longer own any big block rides. thou i must admit doing a NorthStar could be neet, I love going against the grain. I cant say much else nothing could make me feel better than this (aside from finding a way to fit a fuel injected 427 chevy BB in there) so i will keep on my eyes on the prize. A street stock looking cavy, RWD, quietly ripping the souls out or rich kids in their daddy's (insert exotic car here).
I wanna thank all of you that have droped your 2 cents here and if you all see a website that might have some how to data or such plz drop its location here thanks again all
