LOL @ Magik1109... I understand all that. If im gonna do this conversion... Im going MSD. Thats why Im venting cuz we might need the interface piece, but we shall see. Maybe he hooked it up wrong. I dunno. Im just seeing that 99+ owners get a break and not having to get so much crap to make things work mostly with GM charger.

Btw, I have been having problems with this stupid red top optima staying charged, Even though I fully charged it with my Marine charger could it still have dead cells which could be keeping the engine from turning over..?
Its weird because it started Saturday..

i'm pretty sure you wont need interface if you use the right set.
yeah i understand about pre 99 not being able to do things like 99+!!!

whitecavy, you should try the msd coil on Mat's car and see if it works...

Straight from Turbotechracing website.

"These modules go between the factory GM ignition module and coil packs. They have color coded wires that connect to the DIS wiring and are molded using Arathane Polyurethane for it's high dilectric strength and connect directly to the factory terminals. For the 1995-1997 2.2L these are needed to use the MSD coils packs. Also, these interface modules are needed on the 1998-02 2.2L OHV if you will be using the MSD Dis 2 box. "

I have an 01 2200 setup, and NOT using the MSD Dis 2 box... Now I just wanna know why this isnt working with my car?

First....... is the car cranking? the way you make it sound is you swapped coils, and now it doesnt crank. If thats the case, it has nothing to do with the coils.

Second...... if it is cranking, but not firing, check the fire order and your adapter harness (not sure what way you went)

Third...... you should not have to worry about the MSD Interface Modules anyway, unless you want to use them. Either way you do this swap, they are not needed.

Yeah I guess I should of mentioned, the car IS cranking, just not turning over.. Firing order is good, I tripple checked, even with my manual. Ill check again in the morning, just to make sure..

Look how I numbered my coils on page 4, that IS correct right? I numbered each coil before I took the stock one off.

For the 2.4, nothing...... and using a 95-97 2.2 ICM wont matter either, as long as your gutting it and turning it into a coil adapter. All its doing is directing current/voltage to the inputs on the coils

Check for spark. Pull a plug, put the plug wire on it, and ground the plug to the cam tower..... crank the car and watch for a spark. If you dont have spark, then pull the coils, and check to make sure they are seating on the 2 posts correctly.

the way i was gonna hook them is just cut the wires before my 2.4 icm plug and and connect them to the 2.2 icm harness....
so i do it that way, i'll have to get 98+ icm?

then i dont know man.... maybe you got bad msd coils

Re: Interest in Team Green 2.2 Coil Conversion for the ld9

Maybe your right, but I doubt these are bad. I had these msd coils on my 97 2.2 WITHOUT the MSD module interface and I experienced the same problem with that motor that im having now with my 2.4.

Since the MSD coils give our higher voltage or whatever, maybe the stock ICM cant handle them.. Thats why we need the DIS-2 Is needed probably.

check if they works on Mat's car and if they do, then your icm is the problem.... if not, its the msd coils

WELL, I want to thank my friend Magik1109 for his suggestion lol.. I swapped the ICM from the 98 2200 that I just picked up today, and what do you know, the car starts with the MSD coils lol.. Like he said, I had a bad ICM...

So, the car came out of hybernation just to test this little MSD experiment..

Thanks guys.
