I am still very interested as well. If not a kit then for a write up or something pointing us in the right direction.

Here is a certain members coil setup that im doing as a test unit. It looks like my coil kits will be interface adapters with the harness wired by me. Only problem im running into is the plug that goes into the 2.4 icm. I cant seem to find them for sale for cheap. but alas it is progressing. Going price for it is going to be in the 150 range then you would need to supply coils and plug wires.

I can also do a write up for this as well with the interface adapters if everyone is interested.

So the MSD interface adapter makes it so you don't need the 2.2 icm?

I think a write up is in order for future people.

Since I am an ignition newb, would I need spark plugs from another car that came with coil packs or will the ignition wires plug right into any 2.4 spark plugs? Also are the MSD parts used in the kit for a specific car or are they universal parts?

Keep up the good work!

With the adapter boxes you dont need the 2.2 icm, for spark plugs you use 2.4 colder heat range plugs, for wires you use 97 2.2 ohv wires, and the msd parts are universal.

Well i just need some 2.4 icm to coil harnesses to make kits as the plugs are hard to come by then i can start making kits. I will prolly do 1 or 2 orders at a time as i dont have tons of time to do it.

But a write up will be in order with a wiring schematic its really not hard to do with the adapter boxes.

MSD-8870

As for the plug wires im unsure as they dont make wires specifically for the 2.2

i will have a look around some of my boxes as i might have a couple harness's for you and then i could just mail them to you to help the cause.

once you know for sure you have enough of a surplus to make the kits give me a shout as i would like one but with brians style of keeping the idi cover please.

WOOT.

Btw all the kits i make are made to keep the idi cover. w/o it something seems missing.

It looks better without the IDI cover.
I've always like the look of the raw engine and the cam towers exposed.

You guys will love this mod

Btw, if you guys want MSD wires, just get a set of GTP MSD ones.. Of course you wont use 2 of them, and those will be the 2 shorter ones.. Mine tured out great.

I have gotten a little lost over the 8 pages of this. Is the last picture with the MSD adapter box? Meaning is that all the swap contains? Plus the wires obviously.

It does look really sexy, great job. From the sound of it you had better be ready to sell more then a few.

In the last pic its with the adapter boxes and thats the whole swap minus plug wires. The only thing i lack is the plug that goes from the ICM to coils. So unfortunately that would be the only thing holding me back.

If anyone has a bunch of plugs they want to sell LET ME KNOW ASAP!!!!

i just did this swap today and i must say that for the cost of it, you would be crazy NOT to do it. It is definately by far the best modification ive done to my car for the cost of it. I got the ICM and the wires plus a bracket today for 5 bucks from the local u pull it yard. My buddy had a set of coils laying around that he gave me and i followed misinblu's write up(or whoever claims the write up) and the only thing i found that needs to be stated in the diagram of the inside of the ICM is that you need to cut the aluminum piece that goes from the bottom right corner up to where it says the piece that is not used. If not the car will not start, it was driving me nuts today and i just sat there and thought about it and gave it a try and cut the metal piece and it fired right up. Very nice mod.

There are two different ICM's that fit the 2.2 engine. One has the two plug hookup and the other has the three plug hookup coming into the ICM.
Because of this, there are minor differences in the gutting and wiring of the two ICM's.
The writeup I did on my original setup had the two plug diagram and just recently, did the same for a friends SRT-4 in which I used a 3 plug ICM, gutted it, and wired it according to how it needed to work.

If I can ever get to a scanner or photograph it, will put up the diagram along with the other on my website.
Then both of the ICM diagrams will be available so that whatever you get from the junkyard, you can then just use the appropriate diagram to wire your unit.

I'm also glad to see this working for people. It was always a good mod.
The SRT-4 I'm working with is about ready to run some low to mid 11's and if all works out, will be hitting high 10's with this same ignition setup everybody is doing here.
It won't be too much longer.

Good luck everybody.
Also, if I do get up that diagram, I'll post up here to let everyone know it's up along with providing a link.
