LD9 Engine Discussion, new & Reman.

Ok, I want to build the space motor I have, but I think I talked myself out of it....for now. So I have been looking for a brand new or re-manufactured motor. So I asked summit racing while I was on the phone with them, and he looked up three LD9 motors for me, and they were GM part numbers. Summit had no idea why there are three motors listed for the 96-02 LD9's. So I started digging, again.

p/n 12465495 99-02 LD9's 2rd Design, $2,335.75-$3,007.39
p/n 12462258 98-97 LD9's 1b Design, $1,766.96-$1,508.71
p/n 12360467 96 LD9's 1a Design, $1,766.96-$1,508.71
p/n 11516479 keep coming up for design 2, when using design 1a & 1b, I assume this is for the knock sensor adapter.

New GM Goodwrench engines include:

cylinder block, head and valve train assembly, camshaft, lifters, oil pump, oil check valve, piston assemblies (connecting rods, pins and rings), timing components, bearings, seals, waterr pump, spark plugs, power steering pump pulley, all tin ware

All components are new and meet GM OE specifications.
Notes: Does not include Flywheel, Crankcase, Thermostat, Intake or
Exhaust Manifold, Electric Ignition Module, Crankshaft Position,
and *Oil Level Sensors.
*See design 1a.

If I buy say 12462258...
I will reuse all my 99' &02' sensors. I know I have to use 11516479 for the knock sensor hole, use my high impedance injectors, my non-egr intake manifold, my non-egr header, either starter small or large, and I think thats it.

It is that simple, correct. I think this info should be a sticky or Lenko should add it to the FAQ...at the very least.
Or at least make the "LD9 2.4 Twin Cam - Overview, Torque, Fluid, and Engine Specs" a sticky and edit / add this to that.

The 99-02 engine must also take the slightly higher compression of 9.7:1 as opposed to the 97-98s 9.5:1. That's my only idea there. Otherwise it seems that simple to meet about what you would need to do to make that work with your 99. When I blew the engine in my 99 I bought another used, below 50k, '99 2.4 and it came essentially just like your engine. Since you know about the knock sensor thing I'd say you're in the clear. Plus you might as well go with the small starter, so much easier to work around, not to mention the essential weight savings.

Yeah I have two starters. A smaller 99 that is on my cav, and a larger newer 97-98 that is sitting in my garage.

wow... pretty neat man. my dad has a 94 2.3 gm goodwrench crate-motor lying around that a customer brought in as a core, until i saw that i would have never guessed they made these new engines that way. but it does make sense.

although i cant see spending that kinda money on a new engine, you could put all forged components (stock crank) and a ton of goodies into your stock engine for that.

Not a ton of goodies maybe a few goodies. Pistons 400, rods 350, block machining 250, balancing 200, plus stock block 250. Thats already 1450, and thats nothing on the top end...and no gaskets, rings, wrist pins, studs, and all the other misc parts. My build-up....when ever I do finish it will cost at least 3-4 grand.

I'll explain it the best I can.
I am sick and tired of watching my friends drag race, I LOVE drag racing, and have drag raced legally since summer of 2001. Thats almost 6 years. I use to street race before that. @!#$ retarded I was, and I learn my lesson the HARD way. I have WELL over 2000 passes in my cav at the local track. I miss it. I had a shoe box FULL of time slips. I have tried drag racing my HHR, but do not want to brake anything. I use to race EVERY Wednesday, Saturday , and some Sundays. FWD class Wednesday, Trophy class on Saturday, and Street class on Sunday. I have raced A lot. In 2005 I won a lot. 2006 car and I were never consistent, and well 2007 hell thats shot.

I plain miss it. Its just in me to race. I get to the track smell the sent of burnt rubber, nitro, alcohol, and just smile. Nothing makes me smiler wider than seeing a 300 foot wheel stand followed by a 7 sec. pass. I miss all the people I BS'ed with in the staging lanes. Helping & being helped while working on cars, trucks, and what ever. I miss the atmosphere of the track, not saying I'm not there still...hell I was there last night. I just do not want to "not be drag racing." Plain-n-simple. I do not care how fast my car is, even though I want it to be faster & faster. To me its more about the excitement, people, and experiences I have while doing it. ~~tear~~

mike... i hear ya man. im the same exact way, its worse off for me though, i havnt gotten to race one of MY cars since 03, and even then it was 2 passes and i broke a shift cable, before that it had been a year. i need to get my other Z running again!!!!! it really is hard as hell work on them both though, my auto car sees all of my time as it requires a lot to show it (thats basically all its for) my 5spd Z is for racing and beating on purposes lol

holy freakin 2000 PASSES!!!!! OMFG! i dont think my dad having raced for 30+ years has logged that many, WOW.
....and i thought i was hot shiit for having 92 time slips hahahahahaha

Hell 92 time slips. I can have that many in 5-6 weeks back in the day. LOL In a week I use to average 15-20 times down the track. I remember some Sundays running down the track 10-13 times alone. I bet most of my slips are from 2005, anywhere from 350-400 slips. I mean track opens early April, and closes in early November. Thats 7 solid months of racing weather permitting.

Wednesday's:
Dial ins 3-5
Depending if I am winning 1-4
Saturday's :
Dial ins 4-5
Bracket Racing 2-4...buy backs on Saturday
Sunday's:
Dial in 5-10
Bracket Racing 1-3
track opens earlier....well use to.
Thats anywhere from 7-20 times down the track a week, and I know it is closer to the 20 most of the time.

I'm a junkie.
Wish I could post a pic of the shoe box, but I went by by in the flood we had last summer.
