Is that the SW kit? If so its the same one I have. Your headliner and front door panels will fit if you angle the hoop back about 5-10 degrees. The rear door panels won't fit no matter how hard you try....unless you really modify them LOL.
Also make sure that those door bars are halfway up your body when your in your seat. That's part of the NHRA spec (at least halfway between shoulder and waist when seated, they'd rather it be on the too high side if anything). If that doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try and explain better.

na its the kit from jegs.. very similar tho. I figured I'd have the loop angled back slightly to be hidden by the B-pillar from a profile view of the car.
but the NHRA regs you describe make sense. I gotta call the local shop to discuss the details of the cage.
I'm gonna see if he'll let me tack it in place where i want it, then let his guys do the final welding.
I gotta order seats tho and put em in.. I gave the skwirl's seats away LOL
IIRC the Jegs kit is made from the same bend card as the SW kit...meaning they should be identical. Enjoy the kit! We only had to cut off 3-4 inches total to make the main hoop, both rear down tubes and the drivers door bar fit PERFECTLY. The kit is so precise it's unreal.

I've been gone a little while and perhaps I missed this, but what size exhaust were you planning on running PJ? 3", 3.5", 4"? You still shooting for 600+whp?
I have no signiture

not initially, I'm keeping it 3" for the time being.
before I left work I decided to clean up the cuts and weld in my 2" square tubing to support the rear frame.
the welds look ass-y.
mocking up the cell with some 2x4
from the top
next, I have to make the forward mounting point for the front of the cell, as well as the fuel pump. Since I'm mounting my cell pretty high, its going to put the pump in the primo location for feed purposes.
Although I am still in debate since I am worried about weight and keeping it as low as possible so.. we'll see.
15 lbs eh...
interesting...

failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
Hey PJ...don't forget that your NOT ALLOW TO GRIND THE WELDS ON THE CAGE! Make sure you get a welder who can make nice looking welds too or you'll be stuck with crap. Any grinding to the welds is a cause for rejection in tech...you can paint over them though.

Yes, noob, the search button is for you...
today I liberated some 1/16" thick steel from work, and cut and machined it into 2" wide perfectly square straps for my cell.
strap kits from jegs just wouldn't work properly in my application, so I decided to make my own. Bent them up on the brake we have in work and the lower 2 straps are almost complete. All I need to do is weld the front mounting point into the frame for the fuel cell and make the last two bends on my straps. Drill em out for bolts, and bam half the cell install will be complete (I still need to make the top straps to securely hold it in place).
I also removed the stock filler neck and cap. Now when you open the gas door, there's just an empty hole LOL
anyways, from the front mount for the fuel cell, I'm also going to incorporate a section for the fuel pump and lines. Once everything is mounted to my satisfaction, I'm going to start thinking of a way to cover up the remaining open space in the floor. I'm sure it'll be great for ventilation, but air in the car when you're trying to go as fast as you can isn't a good idea for aerodynamics.
at this rate the cell and fuel pump should be fully mounted by week's end
ive been keeping up with these posts and cant wait till you bring that beast out.Def going to be worth it in the end.YOUR A GOD! I BOW DOWN TO YOU!
So today I fabricated the front mount for the fuel cell, and after welding it to the floor of the car, and bracing it on the inside of the body rails I got the cell into position with the straps, marked it and drilled and tapped the mounting holes.
So now the cell is resting in the car all on its own. The fit is a bit tight, but it is exactly how I wanted it to go together.
The only part left now is to fab up the top straps and put them in. it looks SICK. Even down on the ground, looking parallel to the bottom of the car you can't tell the cell is in there.
I didn't take pictures cuz i don't want to show you guys until I have the top straps on. Probably tomorrow night I'll show some pictures of it. I also have to figure out how I'm going to run the fuel lines and mount the fuel pump.. now that the cell is in place, it'll make that part a lot easier.
I also just ordered 3/16" brake line kit from jegs complete with tools, the jegs distribution block with proportioning valve, and earl's speed bleeders for the front and rear brakes. The brake system only needs to be assembled once I get those parts and it'll finally FINALLY be done!
I'm getting very excited since I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.. I can't wait to actually get the car alive so I can begin troubleshooting any problems I may have (the cooling system is what has me the most worried)
I also ordered aerocatch hood pins earlier in the week, and should be getting those at the same time as the brake stuff. I already removed the hood latch and support bracket from the front of the car and it cleans things up MASSIVELY. It'll also allow me to re-mount the intercooler and allow me to run a much larger one in the future

a picture from tonight
I'm also going to be fabbing up some spacers to get my IF front bumper to fit a bit better.. worse case scenario, I'll be ordering a brand new one since this one is a bit worse for the wear.
stay tuned guys.

Why would we even turn away???
So u did end up getting rid of the stock latch eh? Have you thought about getting a fiberglass or CF hood? It saves a @!#$load of weight.
If you get rid of that IF front bumper, let me know
wow... thanks pj.
definitely something i hadn't thought of for weight reduction- remove the entire stock latch support brace!!!! that thing had to have weighed at least 20lbs. weigh it?
it wont hurt the structure up front though will it??

Alexis: Dustin, you're ghey, lol. I am better. I have tits, and tits rule all.
It weighs about 5 lbs man it is not that heavy. lol
Hey squirl I got something to ask you. Will the clutch work so that way I have a green light to do this.
I got my stand alone done and I can finally support the 60-2. My car is running pretty good.
Just maxed out my 360 Cobalt injectors on like 9 psi my T4 100% duty cycle. Won't need those anymore need bigger.
I asked this a couple of months back and I am keeping an eye on this just so I can see you not have problems with the clutch, then I am doing it but I am using the LSJ head too since it is sand cast and studed.
Do you or anyone have a how to on balance shafts.
Well how to put them back together since mine are apart on the LSJ.
I might sell the LSJ and build my L61.

Build my L61!

Yas, still don't know about the clutch.. I won't until I try to move the car for the first time.
the latch assembly and support bracket wasn't that heavy at all. Since I didn't feel like moving the radiator I sorta bent it to get it out LOL
I did it more for space than anything else.
And once I get the aerocatch pins working good on my stock hood, I'm going to be getting either a CF or fiberglass hood. I want to have it painted to match the skwirl eventually but the weight reduction will be nice.
looking good man, do you already have the ems pro wired up in the car?

R.I.P. Brian Klocke, you will never be forgotten

to be completely honest, the fiberglass cav hoods ive lifted before are lighter then my VIS cf, but it is also FG with CF laid over it so thats why. this is though... unless you find a rare as hell fiber images full carbon hood the best thing you should do is go with a fiberglass hood IMO. since your going to be painting it anyways...
does anyone even make an OEM style fiberglass hood?

failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
idk if anybody makes an OEM fiberglass hood.. so I may have to get one with a CF overlay anyways.. but either way, it'll be a @!#$ load lighter than the factory steel hood. Mine's been beat up pretty bad too.. the wind took it off the prop rod a few times
brandon, I haven't started wiring anything up yet. I'm trying to focus mostly on the fabrication aspect and get that out of the way so I can get my car towed home
the only real project left is mounting my new seats.. I haven't ordered them yet but should be doing so next week
one thing ive always wondered but never remembered to ask...
did your pass. door handle ever end up working? the one for a malibu or whatever it was?
